P@ck I knew I could count on you to comment on the Grant-Sherman comparison. (Bata Bing!) Quite frankly while Sherman has had some solid teams I don't think the starting 22 on these Packer teams were as good as the starting 22 for the Vikings during the 70's. So whether or not Sherman made it to the SB is a moot point at best. As I mentioned I have indeed been frustrated by many of the calls that have been made during the games and said that I think the coaching staff lost the game. I have also been frustrated by the calls that Holmgren made while he was here as well. And he made it to two SBs. So it takes more than JUST the post season record to determine the skill level of a coach. What I am saying is overall there are some good things AND bad things with this team. That starts w/ the President and goes right down to the grounds crew. Firing Sherman mid season is not necessarily the best solution. UNLESS the only way to keep Favre on board for next year is to let him play a few weeks w/ his new head coach and let him decide before he gets to the off season that he likes what he sees. There is no gaurantee that he will. If they hire a def specialist like Bates to be HC, he will not be able to put his OC in place until after the season is over anyhow. So what we will end up w/ is a bigger mess than what we have now. That is hardly going to inspire Brett to come back for another year. They will also have to shore up the OL for Brett. Once again the players they need are not avail mid season. Just looking at the roster as the season began I didn't expect the Packers to go 10-6. On opening day if you would have said they will lose all these players to injury and also tell me all the players that they were going to cut mid season, I would have said there was no way to even go 8-8. 6-10 would have been the best they could achieve. But for a few plays, they could be on course for that record. Is it the coaches fault or the players fault? A bit of both no doubt. Actually at this point I really don't care if they win another game. (Sacrilegious isn't it?) If they finish in the bottom 5 teams, they will pick up "another" 1st round draft pick sort of. 1st of all they get an impact player in the 1st round who can start unless they draft Tony Mandrich's son or something. The 5th pick in the 2nd round, skill wise, is not that much different that the 24th pick in the 1st round. So in a way they have 2 1st round picks. The 3rd-7th picks are also close in skills to the bottom of the prior round as well. I would trade a 7th round player for a 1st round caliber player every day of the week. As I mentioned back before the season began, I anticipate next year to be a rebuilding season as well. So I am willing to sit and wait this year. I refuse to get all worked up over what ever happens out there on the field this year.
