Green, Poppinga pass physicals

Packers coach Mike McCarthy confirmed after practice Monday morning that running back Ahman Green and linebacker Brady Poppinga passed their physicals. McCarthy said both players would take part in limited drills during the full-pads practice Monday night.

Green said he will not participate in full-contact activities this week but is hoping to do that by the end of next week. Green, who suffered a ruptured tendon in his right thigh Oct. 23 in a game against Minnesota, said he is hoping he can play in the Packers' third exhibition game, which is scheduled for Aug. 28 at Cincinnati. Poppinga tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee last season as a rookie.

Defensive lineman Cullen Jenkins did not participate in the Monday morning practice due to personal reasons, according to McCarthy. Jenkins isn't expected to practice Monday evening but should return Tuesday.

Safety Nick Collins, who injured his back when he slipped on the sidelines during Saturday night's scrimmage at Lambeau Field, was back on the practice field Monday morning.

Rookie Cory Rodgers, who was drafted as a receiver and kick returner, continued to struggle handling punts during the special teams portion of practice.

Hopefully Ahman Green can get the rust off quickly and be a #1 back again...but I'm excited about Poppinga for two reasons...for one, he's the special teams ace tackler that we've been lacking for so many years...for two, his injury was pretty bad and it's great to have him back so quickly

very good news. Keep Green with limited action, let gado\herron take majority load, while green\najeh recover. By the time the season comes around we will have 4 very capable RBs!@

nah i think theres plenty of time to get well still left over. id rather have 4 very healthy very good rbs come week 2 or 3 than have 2 healthy and 2 re-injured running backs because we wanted to light the fires.

but im with you, id like to see them back as soon as they are ready.

OMFG *******.

That's good news, but it's not like we didn't know that was coming before week 1.
