Kitna gained 1 yard on the first, resulting in a punt, and 3 on the second, forcing the Lions to settle for a field goal. Kitna audibled to the second sneak, thinking he had a good shot at reaching the end zone because he noticed that the Packers' defensive tackles were lined up outside the shoulders of Detroit's offensive guards (known as a "Three Technique"). The problem with making such a call against Green Bay was that Packers tackle Ryan Pickett spent the previous five seasons in St. Louis, when Lions offensive coordinator Mike Martz was the Rams' coach. Pickett remembered that, when the defense showed a "Three Technique," Martz allowed his quarterback to audible to the sneak.
