Wrong. TT lost Mike Wahle in his first year because he was owed an unaffordable $11M, and an aging Marco Rivera. He never had either to work with. That's 2/5ths of the line right there, with Flanagan soon to follow. He had to rebuild the line almost from scratch. Even it it was true, you're just cherry picking positional strengths and weaknesses. Any team is going to have both. Before Thompson, our WR corps was extraordinarily weak in the late 90's/early 2000's, and that's now a strength. So your bar of success is basically that a GM is a failure if he doesn't make the NFC Championship Game every year. Good to know. You'll never be happy with any GM here. This is so deceiving it's not even funny. Thompson inherited a Sherman team, not a Wolf team. Thompson didn't inherit the 1996 NFL Champion team. He inherited a team in salary cap hell from a horrible GM who gave large deals to players like Cletidus Hunt, Joe Johnson, etc. It might be because they both sucked and he was willing to admit that and go another route rather than force a year with Harrell as backup again. Just a thought.
