Second-tier free agents can make impact, too

    By Adam Schefter
    NFL Analyst

(March 7, 2007) -- Wednesday is Hump Day, and it felt that way around the NFL.

Teams now are transitioning from the top-tier free agents to the middle-tier ones. This is the time when personnel people who know what they are doing distinguish themselves..........

Well said! Any trained chimp can throw big money at big names who will probably never yield a Super Bowl trophy. But for those GMs who wish to build a team that can make a run, the fun begins now.

I agree as well. This is what Thompson did last year. Around this time he begun to pursue Ryan Pickett heavily. In the next week the Packers should pick up activity in free agency.

Nick Barnett for sure is a free agent. I believe Corey Williams as well.

Those are the only two I know off the top of my head.

Thompson's strengths lies in his abilities starting now until after the draft.

    Chill.

It's gotten a little beyond when he's being criticized for missing out on Cris Freaking Brown. Let's just sign SOMEBODY right?

I swear if Morency somehow became a FA there would be one guy hanging from his belt and one from his ankle because he had a 100 yard game or two.

Yeah, for some reason I think I expected this year to be different than last, but really nothing's changed. I am getting antsy, but it'll take a heck of a lot more than one week of inactivity to get me down.
