Considering what happened to the Bears after Cutler went down. I have to agree with Donovan. What did the Bears have to lose?

If he flopped...at least the Bears could have gone down saying they tried.

If he had succeeded...the Bears could very well have been in the playoffs.

Next season everyone would have known the job was Cutler's. Donovan takes a job as back-up, or hits the road.

Where was the downbside? I just don't see it.

The one thing that was almost a given after the fist game without Cutler...
....the new kid couldn't do it. Why NOT give Donovan a shot?. The Bears were still solidly in Playoff contention.

They saved some bucks ...............and lost themselves right out of the post-season.

Nuts.! Cutting off your nose to spite your face...
