Bennett, who will lead the Panthers against Kentucky in today's BBVA Compass Bowl, suggested there's a chance the 2009 Big East offensive player of the year could change his mind. "I think it's in limbo," said Bennett, who earlier this week accepted an offer to become Baylor's defensive coordinator. "Right now, it'll be a mistake for him to leave, but that's just how I feel about it personally." Bennett said Lewis' slow start this year could adversely affect is potential draft position. Lewis entered the season at a legitimate Heisman Trophy hopeful, but his candidacy faded quickly as he struggled early behind an inexperienced offensive line. Lewis, who spent a year at a prep school before enrolling at Pitt, broke several freshman rushing records last season. He rushed for 1,799 yards in 2009, but totaled only 956 yards and 12 touchdowns this season as he split duty with Ray Graham. "I think Dion will be evaluated (by NFL scouts), and we'll go from there," Bennett said. "I'll support whatever decision he makes, but my advice is that he stays because he needs another year." - Ralph N.
