Having done pretty well woud've been signing him. No consolation in that. Haven't needed to go that route because Green Bay always had competent WRs, which usually yielded a diverse WR corp. Never said Green Bay is the "Chernobyl" of the NFL, and definitely never implied that Aaron Rodgers was ever a deterrent for free agents. On the contrary, Rodgers automatically comes to mind whenever any free agent considers Green Bay. However, Green Bay as a town itself is considered just as strongly. Julio Jones is an outlier. Nearly every other All-Pro receiver in the last decade has either been traded or outright released. Jones is essentially the perfect player. With all strengths and no weakness off and on the field, he has constantly given Atlanta a "hometown" discount, possesses zero ego, and came into the league as a high 1st round draft pick. Atlanta gave up a lot of capital to draft him, they wouldn't ever move on from him. There has never been a WR in Green Bay remotely resembling him. I think WR is a priority to Gute so much, that he made a pretty huge offer to Allen Robinson and drafted 3 WRs in 2018 along with adding Lazard as an UDFA. This season, its possible Gute facing uncertainty with the pandemic, might've felt drafting a WR wouldn't make an impact. Time will tell.
