you cant just fire a gun like that and not get arrested. sorry. gun fired in crowded area = your *** going to jail. thats it.

But everything after that will be settled in court, if he was justified, etc.

What would have happened if he didn't have the gun in his CAR? He would have just....driven away.

    Shoot a gun....

    or

    Drive away....

Yes, he was assaulted physically, and those people will probably be taken care of heavilly in court(especially if they assaulted officers, and had to be tazered, etc), but you can't shoot a gun like that.

    HOWEVER....

We don't know all the facts of that night as it is, which is why I am just going to let the courts handle it, then i'll let TT handle it.

Did he fire the 'warning shots' in the air(which,um, come down, and can kill people)? into the ground? at a wall? theres a LOT of unknowns.

this is just like when Free Agency began and TT didnt sign 13915494 people. We just have to AGAIN..."Wait and See."

    :)

edit - and didnt this happen in texas? they have goofy gun laws there. who knows what happens.

You people just haven't spent holidays in the Middle East like I have.

Bullets coming down don't hurt anybody.
If you don't believe me, Check out episode 50 of Mythbusters on the Discovery Channel.

    http://dsc.discovery.com/fansites/mythb ... in_leftnav

    Episode 50: Bullets Fired Up
Adam and Jamie set out to solve another high caliber conundrum: Can celebratory gunfire kill when the bullets fall back to earth? With the help of some dead pigs, they worked out the terminal velocity of a falling bullet ... and the results may "sting" you!

If you are lucky enough to get hit it will not even break the skin. It is nothing. The bullets don't even fall with the pointy end down. The show went out in the desert tested this myth and the bullets hardly entered the ground.

    The myth is busted.

So go shoot in the air without worries. Just like the Middle East.

OH MY!!! Skoalvike called me a "gun nut!" I'm SOOOO offended!!!
Or i WOULD be if i valued his opinion!
What Rodgers did will be played out in the courts. THEY will decide what punishment, if any, he deserves.

I am so tired of this macho gun toting society we live in. I'm sure this will win me a ton of points with this gang but I think guys with little weiners have to carry guns. Case in point....Cory Rodgers.....he had a gun.....alledgedly for his protection......he was apparently assaulted. USE THE GUN or get rid of it big man. What a pwssey. "I'll shoot it off in the air....that'll get 'em". People don't own guns to protect themselves. Plain and simple.

i'll add my 2 cents worth now. guns scare the heck outta me. my dad had a 410 shotgun which he hardly ever used. i shot it a couple of times & even used an antique flint gun once - i STILL hate guns. let's bottom line it people...i think we can ALL agree that it was wrong for Rodgers to have a gun in his vehicle & shoot it in public. please tell me that NOBODY really believes that's ok?!?!? whether you are a member of the NRA, hate guns, or are somewhere in the middle - what he did was wrong.

As for the mythbusters thing, I watched the episode and they technically declared the myth busted and confirmed, because they couldn't get the bullets coming down in a lethal matter, but they did speak to a specialist doctor who had patients that died from this. It is very unlikely that someone can be killed by bullets coming down, but it has happened.

So you would rather see Mr. Rodgers beat up and injured than safe and sound? Why would you rather see him in the hospital or dead? Would you be happier if he used a sword?

Maybe you're the type that just go along with what the biggest bully dictates?

Maybe you are one of those that want America to surrender Al Qaida?

Maybe if America had given up Hawaii and the Aleutian Islands not so many Americans would have died in WWII.

Maybe giving Europe to the Communists would have prevented a war.

Maybe Hussien should be in control of most of the world's energy supply?

Maybe the LAPD should have just let Rodney King be DUI at over 100 mph on public streets.

Yes, guns are really bad. Take all the guns away from the cops, Marines and army. They might hurt people. Take knitting needles from grandmothers on airline flights for the same reason.

Maybe you should not be permitted to have locks on your doors or doors at all.
Defending boundries and self defense are so objectionable to you. You think Mr. Rodgers should not be allowed to defend himself. Mr. Rodgers should have bought alcohol for crimminals and signed their blank documents.

It gets a little rough out there in the real world. If you are willing to give up your wallet, your body, your life to anyone demanding it, how valuable is your life? What value are you to anyone?

Memorial Day was to honor those who gave all they had for the safety you enjoy but do not value.

WOW.......why do I hear the theme song to "Deliverence" when I read your post? He had the gun. USE IT!!!!! How many times have you defended yourself with your gun???

And which of the above conflicts did Cory Rodgers obtain his gun for?

Not a character issue! Being armed in the United States is well within his constitutional rights. And remind yourself that it is an inalienable right which NO form of governemnt has the right to deny you! He has every right to defend himself in whatever manner he chooses when threatened by force or implied force. He should be able to go wherever he chooses; that too is his right. Unless, of course, you prefer the old Communist method of traveling about.

Well.......I own a gun to protect myself. So your wrong on that.
Again........there are BAD people in the world that have NO respect for other people, or their property. Those are the ones i worry about, not the anti-gun people like you Depack. Not everyone that owns a gun is a "gun toting whacko" as you make it sound. Like i said before, i have not used a gun to commit a crime, and i don't intend to start now. Why don't you channel your anger towards the criminals, instead of verbally attacking law abiding people like me? Go after the bad guys with the same venom you "shoot" towards people like me, that just want to keep the rights our four-fathers fought and died for.

"Rodgers, a fourth-round pick from TCU, faces misdemeanor charges of unlawfully carrying a firearm and unlawfully discharging a firearm."
Is he one of the law-breakers you speak of?

You put quotes around "gun toting whacko". Did I say that? Have you ever defended yourself with your gun? Have you ever prevented a crime with your gun? If you answered yes you are in a vast minority. Any study done (by any group other than the NRA) will show you that the chances are far greater that you or Cory Rodgers will hurt or kill a family member with that gun than a criminal.

I'm not the one getting angry at gunowners. Reread my post. My anger is toward Rodgers. If you can't see that what he did is wrong then just go Re-up your NRA membership, bury your head in the sand and keep falling back on something written in the constitution long before semi-automatic handguns and Uzis existed.

That is hilarious. Running around with a unlicensed gun and shooting it in the air is not an unalienable right. Also the 2nd amendment isn't that open and shut. "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." There is a National Guard, a United States Army, Navy, and Marines. That is a well regulated militia. Outlawing some forms of firearms such as handguns would not necessarily be against the 2nd amendment because it would not endanger the well regulated militia. You also make it sound like everybody should be able to carry around guns and shoot them off in the air all willy nilly when they are threatened. A well regulated militia is not a dude carrying a handgun and shooting it in the air when violence occurs.

As for the protecting himself thing, Cory did not save his life by having the gun in this instance, it accomplished nothing other than getting in trouble. Like someone else said, he got it from his car. He was at his car he could of just driven away and he wouldn't be in any trouble. The gun made the situation worse, not better.

Deer hunting with Uzis was fun until they banned them. It was tough to get a good head mount though. Pretty much destroyed what was left of the deer. Thank goodness there aren't any automatic Bazookas. At least I can still deer hunt with that, though the same problem of mounting remains. :)

Guns for sport or protection are legal. If you need to bring a gun for a night out on the town, you obviously are knowingly putting yourself in harms way. Dumb move. Going to a bar in which gang members hang out, dumber move. Going to a bar with gun in which known gang bangers hang out, dumbest move.

Thank god bling doesn't include Tanks. I could just see these athletes with DUB's on their tanks firing shells because some flamethrower toting gang member wanted an autograph.

I am all for guns, but their are places which do not warrant them, especially bars, dance clubs, BBQ's , recording studios, etc...This sounds more like terrorists strapped with bombs going to clubs.

I said......."As you make it sound"........even in this post, you make it evident that you think that i am burying my head in the sand. What Rodgers did was stupid. I already stated that. I also said he will pay for what he did with his day in court. You obviously hate guns, and anyone that owns one MUST be stupid. No, you didn't use THAT particular word, but your threads show it with what you write. And yes, i have defended myself and my Mother with one of my guns. Someone was trying to break in, and when he saw me with a gun, took off running and jumped in a car with his accomplice and took off.
Guns do not commit crimes. Bad people do. GO AFTER THEM!
Should the Constitution be null and void, because we have better guns now? If you somehow WERE able to remove 100% of the guns from the bad guys (which can't be done) they would continue the violence with knives, baseball bats, whatever they could get their hands on. The problem is NOT the gun, it's the human scum that doesn't care WHAT they do to you. If someone smashes your head with a baseball bat, you would be just as dead.

These groups mentioned are all controled by the government. If the government wanted to make this a dictatorship, the forementioned military would be under government control, and no help to the common citizen. I know, you are laughing and saying it couldn't happen here. They said that in ALL countries that have been taken over. It could happen here, and just might if we keep backpedaling and willingly giving up our freedoms. The founders of this country wrote what they did because in England they didn't have the freedoms. They wanted to guarentee that in the future, the government would not be able to take awy our freedoms.
If you hate guns, don't own one. No one is forcing you. Just don't take awy my ability to hunt, or protect myself if i want to. I'm not asking to own an UZI.

That is the problem with freedom.
Good people such as yourself abide by the laws set forth and have every right to own a gun. But with the good always comes the bad. These people cannot force us to alter laws so the "good" are punished.
Just as free speech can't be compromised because of the porn and violence being spewed out by all forms of media. Problem is the good is being overrun by the bad by sheer numbers and moral decay. You want to slow crime down? If someone breaks the law then punish them to the full extent. Then be tough with the criminals, and find a way to educate the young before they are part of the problem.

You apparently fail to understand the basic principle in the Second Amendment that our forefathers were capable of understanding that a nation of unarmed people is a nation doomed to genocide and destruction. I would much rather entrust my and my families safety to my neighbors and local gun-totin citizens then to the the current swat police and their careless abuse of many of the constitutions amendments. Until you are confronted with an army of gun totin cops who's only loyalty is to the state and who have decided you are for some reason a threat to their institutions you will never understand the importance of gun-totin civilians.
Had the German Nazi party not been able to disarm a whole nation they pprobably would not have succeeded in annihilating six million souls.

and since this thread seems to be getting a little heated...
