So maybe former USC linebacker Brian Cushing doesn't have NFL defensive rookie of the year honors locked up just yet.Another former Trojan linebacker could be giving Cushing a run for his money.According to the Green Bay Press Gazette, Packers linebacker...

Clay Matthews is a complete stud and definate possibility for defensive rookie of the year (Cushing has been a stud as well though)

And remember when people were saying TT gave up too much to move up and draft him? If you ask me, I sure think TT got a bargain!

I didn't say that exactly...but...I did scratch my head on the trade up and ensuing pick. Guess that's why he's there and I'm here, huh? Matthews has completely and utterly taken my by surprise -- and it's all good.

When I read his Grandfather, Dad, and Uncle all played in the NFL, I was intrigued. Now that he is playing like a pro-bowler his rookie year, I'm amazing. When I think about that he hasn't reached his full NFL potential, I'm really really excited.

I actually look forward sometimes to seeing our Defense take the field. I've watched the Packers for 30+ years and that is the first season I've ever thought that. I quickly dismiss it cause it means we could get scored on, but man, the D is pretty fun to watch now. The last couple of years, it was just painful.

He was considered by a lot of draft specialists as the best pure pass rusher in the draft.

By the time he traded up, I thought: "Oh, shoot! We're gonna get Everette Brown!" But then we got him... I took at look at his highlights, his scouting report... Man, this kid wasn't talked a lot before the draft, because he hadn't played a lot, but when he played, he was a monster.

Take a look at both these vids... The monstruous speed and motor was what really impressed me:

He may very well turn out to be the second best pick Teddy ever drafts. The guy is playing well beyond his experience.

He is just relentless! Even if they block him he gets up and keeps after the ball carrier. It might serve a blocker to fall on top of him and pin him down! ;-) I noticed in the Raven game Monday night he was being double teamed by O LINEMEN in the second half of the game!
