tomadz, the link is at the bottom of the post. The article also states that Thomas, the linebacker, will start over Manning. Here's the article: PACKERS: Carroll to start at left cornerback 00:00 am 9/10/05 JASON WILDE jwilde@madison.com GREEN BAY - Even though he was benched in favor of Joey Thomas in the middle of the preseason finale last week, Ahmad Carroll will start at left cornerback in the Green Bay Packers' regular-season opener Sunday at Detroit. While coach Mike Sherman continues to play the I-know-something-you-don't-know game with reporters, believing it gives the Packers a competitive advantage, a team source confirmed Carroll will start. Defensive coordinator Jim Bates wouldn't discuss the issue, repeating, "Talk to coach," three times. Asked if Carroll's confidence level had been affected by his benching, which came after back-to-back penalties, Bates said, "He should have great confidence. He's had a good preseason." Carroll opened camp behind Thomas, but Thomas' calf and hip injuries cost him so much practice time that Carroll overtook him. Last season, Carroll started 12 games including playoffs, and committed 11 coverage penalties (four of which were declined or offset). Against Tennessee last week, Carroll held receiver Drew Bennett on a second-and-16 screen pass to give the Titans an automatic first down, then mugged receiver Brandon Jones on a slant route and was called for pass interference. "It's a matter of getting him to have confidence in his own technique," Bates said. "Guys that really struggle and have to hold are guys that can't run as fast. They hold to survive. Ahmad's plenty quick, plenty strong and plenty fast enough where he doesn't have to hold."
