I understand that if Favre retires, we gain app. 6.7 million in cap space.

Now, I am not a capologist, but if we release him do we still get that savings?

If he plays 1 more year, do we have savings on his contract the year after he retires? If so what is the number?

The impact on the cap is the same regardless of whether he retires or quits. The remaining base salary is wiped off the books while the unamortized portion of the signing bonus immediately accelerates. Favre signed a 10 year deal with an $11 million signing bonus I think. At the time he signed the deal, the maximum time over which the signing bonus could be spread was 6 years so he should have around $2.3 million left to be offset against his $7 million base salary. The $3 million roster bonus would be wiped off the books regardless, provided Brett retires by March 1 should he choose to do so.

C'mon Favre66, there's no reason for this post. With Favre leaving sometime soon, whether it be this year or 3 years from now, the cap implications are worth discussing.

Don't let your love of #4 get in the way of that for others, eh?
