Packers GM Ted Thompson told McKenzie that the Texans had asked permission to interview McKenzie for the general manager's position. That means if they hire McKenzie, they have to give him that title. That obviously makes the job more attractive even if the general manager has to share authority with new coach Gary Kubiak. "It's flattering," said McKenzie of a likely interview, "but we'll take it one step at a time and see what happens." McKenzie said no interview had been scheduled. He said he didn't know Kubiak or team owner Robert McNair. McKenzie said he hadn't spoken with Mike Sherman, now an assistant coach with the Texans, but that he planned to do so.</p><p></p><p>Running back Ahman Green lined up in the backfield and took some handoffs in a teaching session early in practice Sunday morning. Green and the others jogged through the drill, but Green did some cutting at half-speed. Coach Mike McCarthy said the timetable for Green's return remained sometime during training camp.</p><p></p><p>Aaron Rodgers connected with Robert Ferguson on a deep ball in seven-on-seven, but Ferguson deserved much of the credit. <strong><u>He came back for the ball and outjumped cornerback Ahmad Carrroll, making a tough catch.</u></strong> After two camps, it seems that the throwing motion Rodgers learned at California is much less pronounced. Rodgers doesn't look nearly as mechanical as he did a year ago.</p><p></p><p>Rookie offensive guard Daryn Colledge had another good day in one-on-one pass blocking. He got the best of defensive tackles Johnny Jolly and Donnell Washington. . . Rookie guard Jason Spitz also had a better morning in one-on-one pass blocking. Kenny Peterson beat him, but Spitz fared better against Jolly, Washington and Colin Cole.</p><p></p><p>Peterson is playing defensive end in base, but also rushing from an inside position in one-on-one pass blocking.</p><p></p><p>Rookie linebacker Abdul Hodge spent some of the teaching sessions learning the strong-side linebacker position. However, he practiced in team drills almost exclusively at middle linebacker, other than jumping in Friday for a few plays on the strong side when the Packers were shorthanded at the position.</p><p></p><p>First-year wide receiver Ruvell Martin had another good camp. Martin, 6-foot-4 and 217 pounds, made a diving catch of a deep ball in the first team session Sunday morning. Rookie quarterback Ingle Martin threw the pass and Ruvell Martin used his size to outjump rookie corner Will Blackmon for the ball. Later, in a red zone drill, Martin alertly stripped safety Nick Collins of an interception on a poorly thrown pass by Ingle Martin.</p><p></p><p>Offensive lineman Kevin Barry had to be carted from the practice field with a thigh injury after falling forward following a spirited turn against defensive end Michael Montgomery in one-on-one pass blocking. . . Blackmon injured his foot and was walking with crutches in the locker room. . . Free agent running back Arliss Beach injured his hamstring.</p></blockquote><p></p>
