He only pitched 4 innings, have to pitch 5 or more, to get credit for the W.

I never agreed with that, since they hang an L on the starting pitcher if his team is down when he leaves and his team doesn't regain the lead.

The 5 inning rule may have made a "little" more sense when it was common for starting pitchers to go 7+ innings. Now, it's considered great if they pitch 5+.

The Brewer TV guys predicted Woodruff would be pulled after the 4th inning. They pointed to pitch count and days between starts. Woody was approaching 70 thrown pitches and instead of the preferred 5 games between starts, he was on 4 days rest.

Let's not forget, Woody missed all of last year after shoulder surgery and had various setbacks since. He just got back into the rotation last month, no need to overwork him, especially with a 6 run lead.

The baseball season is a marathon and having Woodruff healthy for the final leg, is critical to winning it all.

I actually think the Brewers depth in both the pitching staff and the rest of the players, is their Ace in the hole over the next 2 plus months. The deep bench and bullpen is going to allow Murph to give players needed rest, for both physical and mental fatigue. He will be able to do that, without worrying too much about a drop-off in production. Not many teams can do that. This roster from top to bottom seems to have everyone stepping up and succeeding, no matter when their name is called

Excellent assessment, very insightful. I hadn't thought of all those points, because I don't know as much about baseball as you seem to, but when I read that paragraph, it all makes sense. Thanks for that.

Since their star player was knocked out of the lineup last month, they are undefeated. 12-0, 106 runs scored and 39 given up. 3.18 run differential per game; which is a helluva stat.

20 games over .500 on August 1st, 32 games over 500 today... .633, 7 1/2 games up on the Chicagoes, undefeated in August

Game #120, 3/4 of the way through the season, and the hottest team in baseball for at least 2 full months now. All of Major League Baseball seems to be chuckling and saying, "Oh, yeah, but wait until they start to stumble."

All of baseball has been checking their watches and waiting for that since some time in June... but it ain't happening yet. The Cinderella season just keeps rolling along.

Edit: I live in Kentucky, and the Brewmeisters close the season in Cincinnati. My wife is disabled and very sick, and I'm her caretaker, so I don't like being away from her for a day... but I do believe I will make that trip. I've been a fan for over a half century, and I want to honor them by representing.

So sorry to hear about your wife. You deserve a break, you should go. I am sure you can make arrangements for care for your wife while you enjoy yourself watching a baseball game. I bet your wife will also be happy that you do it too.

Hard for all of us. Not making the playoffs in 2017,18, and 22 were hard pills to swallow. At the beginning of those seasons we were convinced we would be there. Now, not so much.

Yeah and in the years they made the playoffs, they were eliminated in the first round, or in a one game wild card. They have barely put up a fight in the playoffs.

This is a different team. It's very hard to Put win streaks together as they have done. Their manner is confident, not cocky. And most of all, they play and act like they are supposed to win. One guy strikes out, the next guy hits a HR.

It's fun to watch and unprecedented, not just for the Brewers, but for all of MLB.

I would also put in there the 2024 trade of Corbin Burnes for Joey Ortiz and DL Hall. Burnes was basically on his way out of Milwaukee after 2024, since he was going to cost the Brewers way more than they could afford. As it turns out, the team that traded for him, the Orioles, decided he was too expensive for them too and let him walk away at the end of 2024. He signed a 6 year $210M deal with the D'Backs. On June 1st of this year, Burnes was pulled from a game and weeks later, had Tommy John surgery. Meanwhile, Ortiz has been a godsend at 2nd base and DL Hall is in the Brewer bullpen. His most recent outing was the 8-7 comeback win against the Mets on Sunday, which he was credited with the win. He pitched 3.2 innings and gave up 0 hits, zero runs, while striking out 4.

Amazing stat. The brewers have scored 159 more runs than they gave up. Next best is the Cubbies at 116. Colorado is even more astounding in the other way. -326! The next worse is -148. Over 2x worse.

One of the BIG differences between the Brewers and the Cubs, clutch hitting. I can't tell you how many times I have seen the Brewers drive runs in when there are 2 outs and guys on base this season.

The Brewers toughest opponent this month will be our Series at Toronto 8/29-8/31. I don’t see anyone that prevents a serious threat to finishing with a highly productive August.

Oh if The Brewers swept the Cubs 5 of 5? It would be extremely unlikely Chicago would rebound enough to challenge the Division.

That goes for Cincinnati (3rd place) these next 3 games also, if they lose 3 at home they’d be 15 games back. Then if yiur scenario held? (Cincinatti would play their last 3 games of the season on the Road at Milwaukee)
After Cincinnati and The Cubs there’s only 34 games left. Both Cubs and Cinci Being down by 13 and 15 Games? I’m not suggesting it’s impossible to rebound, but that would be a statistical death blow that exponentially increases Milwaukee of winning the Central. They wouldn’t recover.

LOL.....Cubbies lost AGAIN today, at home, against the team we just destroyed!

Pirates hit a HR in the top of the 9th to break a 2-2 tie....and in the bottom of the 9th....PCA successfully steals 2nd, but over slides and gets tagged off the base....you're outta there!
