The personal life of a Packer Player (especial if it becomes public) is somewhat unique in Green Bay for a number of reasons Here my thoughts as to the reason why. It is a small town where the fans have a very close association with the players, it it a very, very Catholic, christian population with strong family values. The fans own the team, and when a player acts with poor judgment, they feel it reflects on them personally and they want that player out of town (Mark Chmura). Maybe time will heal wounds for some, here is a good example: Backers drafted a wide receiver in the late 1970's. His performance on the field was fantastic. Was all-pro in 6 of his 9 years with the Packers, yet at a young age 30 he was traded to Oakland. He was not washed-up and played another 6 years winning another all-pro selection in Buffalo. Why would the Packers dump him? Because his personal life became public. 1) in 1984 he was charged with ****** assault on a dancer in a club in Milwaukee, he claimed it was consensual sex. Not charged due to lack of evidence. 2) in 1986 he was charged again with ****** assault in a stairwell in a Green Bay night club. Charges dropped due to lack of evidence. So here is this future Hall Of Fame Player and he was run out of town. Why? He was not convicted of anything, never spent time in jail. It was because of the reasons I gave earlier....small town, very Christian population, old-fashioned virtues, AND the fans own the team. Al Davis wouldn't have gotten rid of him. Players name: James Lofton, inducted into the Packer Hall of Fame in 1999, 13 after he left Green Bay. He left with no hard feelings towards Green Bay or the Packers. In May 2010, in an interview with Pro Football Weekly he said " it would be fun to be playing in Green Bay. I love Aaron Rodgers and what he does for the Packers." Favre is a different case all together, you can read all about him on this forum. At least if he gets into the Packer Hall of Dame, its 13 years after he left like Lofton because I'll be dead by then and won't have to see it. LOL...I can just see Farve saying "I love Aaron Rodgers...."
