Bears sign Orton to four-year deal

CHICAGO (AP) -- The Chicago Bears signed quarterback Kyle Orton, a three-year starter at Purdue, to a four-year contract Sunday.

Orton, a fourth-round draft pick, was considered a Heisman Trophy candidate until he tore an abdominal muscle midway through the season

Orton completed 58.8 percent of his passes for 9,337 yards and 63 touchdowns with 28 interceptions at Purdue. He had seven 300-yard passing games, including one 500-yard game and two 400-yard games.

Running back Cedric Benson is the Bears' only remaining unsigned pick.

Except for that game against Wisconsin, it looked like Kyle Orton would have a better Season than Drew Brees... He did a few things that Drew couldn't do and one was to beat Notre Dame, and I think he also beat Penn State.... Rex Grossman had better hear this wake-up call.... fer sure! I think, personaly, that Kyle is a much tougher QB, than Rex is... at least it's working out that way... IPBprez
