Safety Indianapolis Colts Dexter Reid http://content.hamptonroads.com/story.cfm?story=121739&ran=146269 By STEVE STONE, The Virginian-Pilot © March 26, 2007 VIRGINIA BEACH - NFL player Dexter Devon Reid, 26, a Norfolk native and Granby High School star who played for the Indianapolis Colts in the team's Super Bowl victory this year, was arrested Sunday on gun and drug charges. Sgt. Brian Ricardo, a police spokesman, said Reid, who was driving a black 2004 GMC sport utility vehicle, was stopped by police at 4:32 a.m. at the intersection of Dam Neck Road and General Booth Boulevard. He initially was stopped on suspicion that he might have been driving drunk, Ricardo said. "During the course of the DUI investigation," Ricardo said, "officers discovered a handgun in his car and a quantity of marijuana." Reid, was charged with first-offense possession of a concealed weapon and a felony charge of possession of marijuana. He did not give a local address and said he was from the Indianapolis area, Ricardo said. He also made no reference to his football ties, telling police he is unemployed. Just last month, Reid had the rare experience of playing in the second Super Bowl of his three-year-old pro career. A four-year letterman at the University of North Carolina, Reid was a rookie with the New England Patriots when they beat the Philadelphia Eagles for the title two years ago. Last season, Reid joined the Colts, but was waived in September. When another player was injured, Reid returned to the Colts. He was picked by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 2004 draft. When linebacker Rocky Calmus was injured, the Colts signed Reid, who had recently been released by the Patriots. Last month, the Colts released Reid, making him a free agent. That move came shortly after the Colts beat the Bears in Super Bowl XLI, 29-17, on Feb. 4. It was the Colts' first Super Bowl victory. The win gave Reid, a reserve defensive back and special teams starter for the Colts, his second Super Bowl ring. Reid was being held without bond Sunday in Virginia Beach city jail pending an arraignment hearing today. ******************************************************** Guns and Marijuana are very popular this year.
