Karlos Dansby
Cardinal's LB

January 26, 2007
Early Friday morning at around 2:00 A.M. Cardinals Linebacker Karlos Dansby was pulled over by a Gilbert police officer for speeding and having no license plate. Upon questioning it was revealed by Dansby that there was in fact a gun in the vehicle but that it was not holstered or in the glove compartment. By law that is cause for a citation because the gun was not being carried correctly.

Although no dates were given, Dansby now faces a day in court on a misdemeanor weapons charge. If convicted Dansby could face the maximum of one-year in jail and a $2,500 fine, although that seems very unlikely. The police officer said that Dansby was kind, courtesy and upfront throughout the entire ordeal. I would imagine the charges will eventually be dropped.

CHARGERS SAFETY TERRENCE KIEL

The image when he last appeared in court.

Chargers safety Terrence Kiel was cited by police for public urination outside a downtown club last month, the latest incident in a string of legal embarrassments for the Chargers stemming from the Gaslamp Quarter.

Kiel was cited in the 600 block of J Street, by the popular Jbar lounge. The San Diego City Attorney's office is reviewing the case, with Kiel scheduled for a court hearing on Feb. 20.

[For those of you who do not know that is very downtown San Diego]

In addition to his public urination citation, Kiel is to appear in court in February hoping to reach a deal with the San Diego County District Attorney on felony charges of theft and possession of a controlled substance. Kiel was arrested in September after Drug Enforcement Administration agents intercepted two packages containing 18 pint bottles of a codeine-based cough syrup. Authorities said Kiel admitted to shipping the syrup to his native Texas, where it can sell for up to $325 on the street.

[The September arrest is posted in last year's(2006) arrests thread]

A nice summarry of the team second only to the Bengals in arrests is also contained in the following article.

Falcons DT Jonathan Babineaux

http://www.11alive.com/news/article_news.aspx?storyid=92434&provider=top
http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/falcons/stories/2007/02/19/0220babineaux.html

Gwinnett County police arrested Atlanta Falcons defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux Monday morning on a charge of felony animal cruelty. Babineaux has bonded out of jail.

According to Cpl. Darren Moloney of the Gwinnett County Police Department, Babineaux's wife took a dog to an animal emergency center in Gwinnett County on Sunday. The dog later died and the subsequent investigation led to an arrest warrant for Babineaux. According to Moloney, investigators believe Babineaux "somehow had a direct hand in killing the animal."

A necropsy on the dog will not be performed until Tuesday to determine the cause of death.

Late on Monday afternoon, the Atlanta Falcons released a short statement that said, "We're aware of the situation and we're in the process of gathering information. Until we have the information we need, we will have no further comment."

Joseph Kim, Babineaux's next-door neighbor, said Babineaux had two dogs, which he described as a pit bull and "some other large dog."
"The big dog had bad behavior," Kim said. "That dog is kind of grouchy."

Kim added that the "big dog" had been sent to obedience school and has been on better behavior.
***********************************************
Notables:

1) He did something to the dog.
2) His spouse took the dog to an animal shelter.
3) Law enforcement is paying for a "Necropsy".
4) The dog was his property.

He will likely be doing community service at the animal shelter. He and his wife seem to have a difference of opinion on the value of the dog.

Indianapolis Colts RB Dominic Rhodes

http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070220/SPORTS03/70220020/1100

Indianapolis Colts running back Dominic Rhodes, one of the stars in the team’s Super Bowl victory, was released with no bail this afternoon following his arrest early today[02/20/2007] on a charge of driving while intoxicated.

The player, his friends and an attorney left the Arrestee Processing Center just minutes after the 1:30 hearing, which took place in a small court that is part of the booking center.

Indiana State Police stopped Rhodes in a silver GMC at 3:02 this morning on northbound I-65 near 71st Street, near the Colts' Northwestside complex, First Sgt. David Bursten said in a written statement. Police said Rhodes was driving 81 mph in a 55 mph zone.

Marion County court records show Rhodes, 28, was arrested on an initial charge of misdemeanor operating a vehicle while intoxicated. His vehicle was impounded and is being stored at a lot in Speedway.

This is Rhodes’ second arrest in Marion County.

In March 2002, he was arrested on battery and domestic battery charges after police said he struck his live-in girlfriend, Latrina Moore, and pushed her to the ground. A deputy dispatched to Rhodes’ Indianapolis home observed a red mark on the left side of Moore’s face and a swollen lip, according to court records.

In September of that year, Rhodes admitted to the crime and was placed in a diversion program.

This arrest comes at an awkward time for the Colts, whose Super Bowl victory was celebrated nearly as much for the team's character as its performance. Rhodes was one of the stars of that game, rushing for 113 yards in the 29-17 win over the Chicago Bears.

Rhodes, becomes a free agent on March 2.

CB Deshea Townsend Pittsburgh Steelers

http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/news/breaking/s_496246.html

Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Deshea Townsend and and another man surrendered to police after getting into a fistfight at a Station Square nightclub, authorities said today.
Townsend was at Margarita Mama's at 1:45 a.m. Friday when Chris Graham, whose age and address were not available, began arguing with another man, Raymond Burgess, Pittsburgh police said.

Burgess and Graham began fighting and Townsend jumped into the fray, said police spokeswoman Diane Richard.

"Mr. Burgess threw punches, hitting Mr. Graham in the face," Richard said. "As he was beating Mr. Graham, Mr. Townsend jumped in and started hitting the victim with a closed fist in the head and face."

At one point during the fight, Graham was knocked to the ground, Richard said. A witness helped Graham up and the two left the nightclub and went to the city police zone station in the South Side to file a report.

Summary citations for simple assault were issued for Townsend and Burgess, and the two surrendered Sunday at Pittsburgh Municipal Court, Downtown, Richard said.

PHOENIX (AP) -- The Arizona Cardinals fired wide receivers coach Richie Anderson on Monday, four days after his arrest in a police prostitution sting operation.

Anderson, a fullback in the NFL for 13 seasons, was hired by new Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt in January.

Anderson, 35, was arrested Thursday night on an accusation of soliciting an undercover Phoenix police officer posing as a **********.

"I wanted a chance to review the details of the situation before making any decision," Whisenhunt said in a statement released by the team. "While it's disappointing, I've decided that this is clearly in the best interests of our team in this particular instance. Our focus is now on finding a replacement and I am confident we will be able to do that relatively soon."

Anderson played for the New York Jets and Dallas Cowboys before retiring after the 2005 season. He was a 2000 Pro Bowl selection while with the Jets and holds the team record for receptions by a running back at 305.

He was assistant wide receivers and tight ends coach for the Jets last season.

TE Seattle Seahawks
Jerramy Stevens

More info
http://www.wral.com/sports/football/nfl/story/1233628/

Seattle Seahawks tight end Jerramy Stevens was accused of driving under the influence and possession of marijuana after police stopped his car in downtown Scottsdale early Tuesday.

A Scottsdale patrol officer noticed the car traveling erratically and made the stop about 2:15 a.m.

Stevens, an unrestricted free agent after five seasons with Seattle, told the officer he had "four of five margaritas" at Salty Seniorita, a downtown Scottsdale bar.

According to the police report, the officer smelled alcohol and noticed Stevens' eyes were "bloodshot and watery and half-closed. Spoke with slow, slurred speech."

As he got out of the vehicle, the report said, Stevens "dropped his cell phone and wallet on the ground, bent down to pick them up, then stutter-stepped to walk" toward the officer.

A second officer arrived and began a field sobriety test, but after Stevens "almost fell down" during the "walk-and-turn" test, the player declined to participate in any further testing.

Police said they found a "leafy green substance" believed to be marijuana in Stevens' pocket.

Stevens refused a breathalyzer test and declined to give a blood sample until police obtained a warrant about 5 a.m., the report said. Stevens was booked and posted bail and an initial court appearance was set for April 2. The blood test results haven't yet been released.

Stevens has had other run-ins with the law.

In June 2003, he pleaded guilty to reckless driving in a plea deal after being stopped in the Seattle suburb of Medina on investigation of drunken driving. He got a two-day jail sentence for that offense.

He received another five days in jail for violating his probation after he drove into a nursing home in 2000 in a hit-and-run case. Stevens was a student at Washington at the time of that incident.

This will help his marketability.

Joey Porter

http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/2007/Mar-19-Mon-2007/news/13262589.html

A National Football League player was cited for misdemeanor battery after he punched a league rival in the face Sunday night at a gaming table in the Palms, Las Vegas police said.

Linebacker Joey Porter, a longtime Pittsburgh Steeler who signed a five-year, $32 million deal with the Miami Dolphins this month, was cited for the brief fight he had with Levi Jones, an offensive tackle with the Cincinnati Bengals, in the casino about 6:55 p.m., Las Vegas police Lt. Kevin McMahill said.

"Apparently these two have a history with each other, a history of trash talking on the field," McMahill said.

WR Jacksonville Jaguars
Charles Dunbar Sharon

http://www.tbo.com/news/metro/MGBB8VDR7ZE.html

TAMPA - Charles Dubar Sharon, a Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver, faces weapons charges after Tampa police said they found him with a stolen handgun this past weekend.

Sharon, 23, of Jacksonville, was charged Saturday with felony charges of carrying a concealed firearm and grand theft of a firearm.

Police said Sharon and Jebidiah S. Crawford were sitting inside a parked Chevrolet Tahoe in Ybor City about 11:45 p.m. Saturday. An officer smelled marijuana smoke and approached the SUV, police said.

The officer saw loose marijuana on Crawford's lap, leading police to search the SUV, according to a report. Police said a stolen Glock model 27 was found underneath the driver's seat, where Sharon was sitting. It was unclear who owned the Glock.

Police said 8 grams of marijuana were found inside a Jacksonville Jaguars duffle bag. Crawford said the bag belonged to him, police said.

Crawford, 22, of Jacksonville, was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana under 20 grams. Crawford said he works as a technician for an air conditioning company, jail records show.

The Jacksonville Jaguars media relations office declined to comment on Sharon's arrest.

At 6 feet tall and 184 pounds, Sharon wears No. 17 for the Jaguars. A rookie in 2006, he was signed to the active roster Nov. 22 but did not play. He is the all-time leader in receiving yards and touchdowns at Bowling Green State University in Ohio.

Saturday night's arrest was the fourth for the Jaguars since the beginning of last season.

Offensive tackle Khalif Barnes was arrested on drunken driving charges in November, and in October defensive end Bobby McCray was arrested on charges of reckless driving and possession of a controlled painkiller, although the drug charges were dropped. In September, cornerback Brian Williams pleaded no contest to drunken-driving charges.

WR Miami Dolphins

Hearing postponed in Marcus Vick lawsuit

The Associated Press
Posted March 19 2007, 9:57 AM EDT

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. -- Marcus Vick won't be in court in Montgomery County this week.

A hearing scheduled for this week in the case of a teen girl who is suing the Miami Dolphins player was postponed after the judge recused himself.

A spokeswoman for attorney Stephan Haga -- who represents the girl -- says the case has been moved to Hillsville and the hearing will take place May 8.

The teenager claims she had an almost two-year ****** relationship with the former Virginia Tech quarterback. She sued Vick for $6.3 million, accusing him of ****** battery upon a minor, fraud and other charges.
This week's hearing was to have been for the judge to consider a motion to dismiss the case.

But the judge recused himself because he presided over a criminal case in 2004 in which Vick was convicted of contributing to the delinquency of a minor for giving three underage girls liquor and encouraging them to strip.

Vick confessed to police that he had consensual sex with one of the girls. The teen who filed the suit says that she was that girl.

Vick appealed then pleaded no contest to one charge. The judge ordered him not to contact the teens in the case.

Another article on why it seems to be going up, that is the number of athletes in trouble with the law... but to blame it all on being at clubs or bars late at night isn't the right answer either, IMO. There is such a thing as self control, responsiblilty and just walking away from a situation. On the Williams ordeal, I think he was trying to do the right thing and that was walk away. From the accounts you hear.

Driving drunk and domestic violence, there is no outside excuse, it is on the person themselves and their poor choices. NO IF AND OR buts about it. Are they human, yes, but on the domestic violence front in the very least, there is no place for that in today's society period.

Safety Indianapolis Colts
Dexter Reid

http://content.hamptonroads.com/story.cfm?story=121739&ran=146269

By STEVE STONE, The Virginian-Pilot
© March 26, 2007
VIRGINIA BEACH - NFL player Dexter Devon Reid, 26, a Norfolk native and Granby High School star who played for the Indianapolis Colts in the team's Super Bowl victory this year, was arrested Sunday on gun and drug charges.

Sgt. Brian Ricardo, a police spokesman, said Reid, who was driving a black 2004 GMC sport utility vehicle, was stopped by police at 4:32 a.m. at the intersection of Dam Neck Road and General Booth Boulevard.

He initially was stopped on suspicion that he might have been driving drunk, Ricardo said.

"During the course of the DUI investigation," Ricardo said, "officers discovered a handgun in his car and a quantity of marijuana."

Reid, was charged with first-offense possession of a concealed weapon and a felony charge of possession of marijuana.

He did not give a local address and said he was from the Indianapolis area, Ricardo said. He also made no reference to his football ties, telling police he is unemployed.

Just last month, Reid had the rare experience of playing in the second Super Bowl of his three-year-old pro career.

A four-year letterman at the University of North Carolina, Reid was a rookie with the New England Patriots when they beat the Philadelphia Eagles for the title two years ago. Last season, Reid joined the Colts, but was waived in September. When another player was injured, Reid returned to the Colts.

He was picked by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 2004 draft.

When linebacker Rocky Calmus was injured, the Colts signed Reid, who had recently been released by the Patriots. Last month, the Colts released Reid, making him a free agent.

That move came shortly after the Colts beat the Bears in Super Bowl XLI, 29-17, on Feb. 4. It was the Colts' first Super Bowl victory.

The win gave Reid, a reserve defensive back and special teams starter for the Colts, his second Super Bowl ring.

Reid was being held without bond Sunday in Virginia Beach city jail pending an arraignment hearing today.

Guard Carolina Panthers
D'Anthony Batiste

http://charlotte.com/115/story/63868.html

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police charged Carolina Panthers reserve guard D'Anthony Batiste over the weekend with carrying a concealed weapon.

Batiste, 24, was also cited for a window tint violation, according to the Observer's news partner, WCNC-TV.

Police stopped his car at 12:35 a.m. Sunday; Batiste's bond was set at $2,300.

The Panthers signed Batiste, a four-year letterman at Louisiana-Lafayette, from the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad as a free agent in October. He has never played in an NFL game, according to the team's Web site.

Titans | Police recommend charges against A. Jones
Mon, 26 Mar 2007 21:08:25 -0700

ESPN.com reports Las Vegas police said they will recommend to the city's district attorney that Tennessee Titans CB Adam Jones be charged with one count of felony coercion and also misdemeanor count of battery and threat to life.

Charges stem from an incident that starting inside the Minxx Gentleman's Club and escalated to a triple shooting Feb. 19, that left one man paralyzed. Lt. George Castro said detectives have not determined who fired the shots that wounded three people outside the Las Vegas club. Castro said the request for charges will be submitted to Clark County district attorney David Roger no later than the end of the week.
