Ten years ago, Ted Thompson took over as the Green Bay Packers general manager and let both starting guards walk. The result was an 4-12 record. Will history repeat itself if the team doesn’t sign right tackle Byron Bulaga?

There was more than the two guards leaving in free agency that led to that plummet. Losing offensive stars Javon Walker, Ahman Green, Najeh Davenport, Robert Ferguson,Bubba Franks, among others, for all or major parts of the season hurt. Brett Favre having a meltdown year at quarterback with some 29 interceptions didn't help either.

Mike Sherman was losing it as head coach, too.

The Packers now are solid and stable. It would be better to keep Bulaga, to keep the o-line intact, but if he bolts it won't have that kind of impact.
