The hype surrounding Tony Mandarich before the 1989 NFL draft was off the charts. Some of the league's top personnel called him: 'rare,' 'outstanding,' and 'a freak of nature.' The Packers too thought highly of Mandarich and selected the Michigan State offensive tackle with the second pick overall in the draft, a pick that was sandwiched between Troy Aikman at No. 1 and Barry Sanders at No. 3. We all know how it turned out.
