Packers: Favre's behavior gone from selfish to silly
Written by PackerChatters Staff
Saturday, 08 April 2006

QB needs to retire or let Packers trade him to start rebuilding
If Brett Favre either can’t or is unwilling to make a decision about playing another year of football, the Packers must make that decision for him. Trade him to a team of his choice and get something in return, or tell him not to bother coming back; it's time to move on.

The Favre Watch went from annoying to downright ludicrous Saturday, when he called an early morning press conference to report that he had nothing to say.

“I don’t know why you guys wasted a trip down here. The Packers and I will make a decision at some point soon,â€

where was the bashing? (I DID only skim it though)

He criticized favre. But he didnt call him names or anything. He did use the word selfish...and well...thats up for debate(but not in this post)

just a pretty bitter, yet truthful and honest criticism.

ps - I bet he definitely got up this morning to watch, and is pissed, like Bozz. lol!

Ps Part II - you will see more articles like this soon, with people criticizing Favre.

edit - is anything that paints brett in a non perfect light BASHING? Im serious, I wanna know what consitutes as bashing on the forum.

comparisons to walker and brett are justified(it doesnt help that it is only 1 year later, since javons thing)

last year brett says honor your contract and be a team player

one year later...

brett could not honor his contract(by retiring, which is fine...thats fine...with ME anyway...it might not sit right with some....everyone has their own opinion) and Brett is being anything but a team player it seems, with these long delays and BAD jokes.

I've been looking at it like this, I think brett should do this:

-If he has faith in TT and GB, he should say he is coming back.
-If he doesn't have faith in TT and GB(which is fine) he should say "It's been great, god bless you all, I am retiring."

but this dillydallying(thats right) and delaying, and waiting, and false press conferences(not his fault) are selfish acts.

Phrases like his "Wait and see" about him judging free agency and stuff aren't selfish?

YES IT IS!

The question is...does he deserve to be selfish? Most of you say yes, some people say no, that he is not bigger than the game.

And those are our opinions. Opinions differ, it happens.

I think we can all agree in hoping this all gets resolved soon and Brett comes back!

but yeah that headline is pretty bash-ish.

LOL, What an idiot. Until someone can tell me how Favre is "BEING SELFISH" I will not even read their ridicuolous banter.

It's a no win argument. How can Brett be compared to Javon. Is Brett holding out for more money? Has every player on the team said "I am officially playing?" It is ignorant.

I get tired of people that just pile on the media circus BUT yet offer any reasoning behind thier garbage.

This guy says that Brett is holding this team back from signing Free Agents.......Who? Green Bay Drafted A-Rod to be next in line. If not this year or next than the year after that or whatever. Bringing in some Free Agent QB would be the most idiotic thing I have ever seen. Why the hell would we sign someone who is less than top calibur. I have heard we could have gotten Kitna or Brees or Collins, are these guys braindead? Yeah lets blow a first round pick on A-Rod and then sign some washed up clef to maybe get us to 8-8 for 3 years and then after that we could bring in A-Rod so he can struggle for 2-3 years. Hell, maybe in a decade we could be competitive. If Brett goes its A-Rod's team. If he stinks it up for 2-3 years we can cut an run.

The next argument I hear is FA's are less likely to come here because of the "we don't know who our QB is going to be thing." Again this argument is just bogus. Some of the biggest teams in FA have a messy QB situation. The Browns brought in lots of guys but noone knows if its going to be Frye or Dilfer. The Vikings made a splash in FA but do you think they came for Brad Johnson? Same situation in Washington who have signed some big WR's. Who's ther QB going to be? Brunell who is 58 years old? Again another bogus argument.

I have also heard Favre is being a "Bad Teammate" and the players are going to be mad at him. Says who? Who has come out and said anything like that? Noone has period! Do you think they want Brett to go? I SERIOUSLY DOUBT IT.

The last, and most absurd one, is that Brett is making the organization look like pushovers so FA's don't want to come here. C'mon now, FA dream of being able to push management around. I mean do you think guys actually hate when they can hold out for more money and the management actually gives in? Yeah, thats a reason not to come.

All I ask is for valid reasoning behind "Popular Statements" directed to bash Brett. Don't throw out some garbage that looks good on paper but is completely fabricated to entice readers.

No Tro, because I know what he is going to say. Its the same argument that all the media fed puppets say. They say stuff with nothing to back it up because the argument makes no sense. I don't need to waste my time reading stuff with the sole intention of enticing readers

Seriously this is a terrible article. It puts words in Brett's mouth he did NOT say.

edit, maybe i dont know what im talking about. writers in my eyes are supposed to convey the message of the person they are writing, not the perception they have after twisting words from the subject they are writing about.

Favre is not the one to be bashed here, his spokesperson is. She was the one who announced it.

Where is her quote stating Brett was going to make his decision? Go ahead and search JSOnline. You'll find her being quoted stating 'we all will find out at the same time' something to that effect.

JSOnline is who stated 'according to becky'...etc and it went off the deep end from there.

The guys at packerchatters.com are a bunch worthless geeky humps who live in their parents basement and never played a sport in their lives--besides electric football....

and the last time they saw a woman's ****** is when they passed through one...at birth!

Kind of reminds me of a couple of guys on this forum...come to think about it....Who shall remain nameless...

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Brett Favre has scheduled a news conference for Saturday morning, and a family spokeswoman said he's expected to announce whether he'll return to play for the Green Bay Packers this season.
Becky Stuart, a personal assistant to the Favre family, said the news conference would be held at 8:30 a.m. ET at Favre's charity golf tournament at the Cottonwoods Golf Course at Grand Casino Resort in Tunica, Miss.

"You've got to get up early if you want the scoop," Stuart said.

Asked whether she knew which way Favre was leaning on whether to play or retire, Stuart said, "We've all got to find out at the same time."

The first paragraph of this article claims Becky Stuart said Favre would be expected to make an announcement, although it is not a direct quote. Either she said something that was incorrect, or the reporter got it wrong. I'm guessing it was the latter. At any rate, it appears Favre should not be blamed for the circus atmosphere that followed.

Becky is a helluva a marketing person.

"You've got to get up early if you want the scoop,"
"We've all got to find out at the same time."

Carefully chosen words to heighten the attention of the chairty. Good move, but I can't say I'm happy about it.

Of course Brett was going to make an announcement, it was a news conference for his golf charity event. That's like me saying I'm going to sell you a brand new car and guess what, its going to have FOUR wheels on it!!

Memo to Brett Favre: When you retire, don't go into the public relations business. I can't think of any other athlete whose retirement decision has been such a debacle. I don't think Favre is being manipulative. He's just telling it like it is. But paradoxically, "telling it like it is" is not always the best thing to do. He's very naive if he thinks people aren't going to get annoyed by all this. Probably what happened with Becky was that she heard he had made a decision, so she let the word out, but Favre then changed his mind and decided to reconsider.

I mostly agree with what this journalist wrote (I think he's from NBC, not Packerchatters), but he goes too far in saying that Favre is doing the same thing Walker did. If Favre starts missing minicamps then I would accept the comparison. But that's not going to happen anyway.
