Needed to correct my mistake. I recently said I thought Brandon had distance from 61-62 yards with ideal conditions.

He went 4/4 including a 56 yarder with plenty to spare.
Brandon just hopped one off the crossbar to match the best this Preseason/Camp. 5/5 at Indi

He just hit from 70!
Just shooting in the dark here but I think he nails a 60+ kick this year. Where the game will played, I don't have a clue. But it's time it happens.

Yes. Week1 until Week 13 (Detroit on Thanksgiving) or Week 18 at US Bank for the Division Win :)

Got a good chuckle on this one from Packers.com

  1. Brandon McManus put on a different uniform.
It was not the veteran kicker's day to kick – he made all six of his field goals in the rain Monday – so he had some fun putting on an official's uniform and working as a side judge during practice.
Some of his teammates didn't recognize him at first.

"It's funny, I was standing next to a teammate, it was (Isaiah) Simmons, and they called a pass interference or something," linebacker Kristian Welch said. "We were like, 'Oh come on, that was not…' I looked over there at the ref and I'm like, 'What the heck?' I've never seen that ref. I kind of stood there and Simmons was like, 'That's McManus.'
"I pointed it out to (Isaiah) McDuffie, too. I said, 'Did you see McManus over there?' He kept looking and he couldn't find him. I'm like, 'The ref.'"
His penchant for throwing DPI flags wasn't appreciated by all.
"He gets on my nerves," Nixon said, having fun with the bit. "He threw like three flags on me today. Anytime he saw I was trash talking, he threw a flag at me. Bogus.
"Yeah, that's why I grabbed his flag and did like the Travis Kelce. I threw it back at him. I'm going to throw all his stuff in the cold tub and tell him to go get it. He's an old man."

The defensive players would rather see him stick to kicking.
"Yeah, I would say," Welch said. "Don't quit your day job."

Impeccable sources on Youtube and TikTok are reporting that on his next off day, he will be the designated Golden Snitch.

McManus has been the king of training camp so far. He's our undeniable MVP.
I think having K with max range of <70 yards area (he bounced the crossbar from 70 and made it) and 80%+ Accuracy at 50-55 yards area is a huge advantage imo.

Our opponents became benefactors in close games going back after Crosby left. We still had Kicker tryouts mid season which is not ideal. I believe we cost ourselves a trip to an NFC title game or more just recently.

IMO teams are going to be shocked when they see we’ve got our version of a peak Justin Tucker 2.0 or close anyway. It’s a massive advantage in football and it’s been an under the radar + over 2024. Narveson could barely handle an XPA attempt. We now have a Kicker that’s more accurate than Crosby inside 50 + our range just went from 55 to 65+. That’s a massive + and my hypothesis is McManus will likely Win us 1-2 games (similar to our Texans finish)

I saw an interview with Narveson on TV yesterday. The announcer asked, "How you doing?" Narveson replied, "I can't kick."

That sums up his career as far as I'm concerned.

I feel sorry for the poor kid. I liked him. I remember reading about how hard he worked in college, and how he sought out advice from NFL kickers, scouts, and coaches every time he got the chance.

He wanted it bad, and was very serious about making himself the best kicker he could be. It just wasn't meant to happen.

Kickers who are good have brains wired just a little different than most people. When you kick, you don't even see the spot on the ball you'll kick. It isn't even down and placed. You just trust the process. You rely on the snapper, and holder to do their part and you're automatic. Narveson's problem is that he hasn't felt that comfort in the process so he's trying to aim his foot at the ball and does not trust where it will be when his foot arrives. Just a few millimeters in the location he makes contact with the ball can cause it to do a lot of various things and it does. That's one of the reasons he'll have a huge hook on one kick and the next one is straight on. He adjusts for what he thinks is going to happen and in the process throws himself off.

To put it as simply as possible, he's toast because he has the yips.

...but if you're Chester Marcol, you need to be aware that the process may break down in case the ball bounces back to you!

Chester ended up hitting the sauce to keep from over thinking the job. Some good ones do. Others, Lake Jan Stenerude went from being a ski-jumper to an NFL place kicker. He had learned to trust the process in ski-jumping to make his landings safe and as far downhill as possible. He used that ice water in his veins from doing that to hone his kicking skills.

Like I said earlier, kickers are wired just a little differently than most people. Watching him kick was like watching a well-oiled machine.

What gets lost in the shuffle is that 55 yarder McManus made against the Bears. We lost the game but it was cause for optimism. Just wish he could have hit that one in Philly even though it may not have factored.

I know. The only positive is we were unfortunate it didn’t matter. If Whelan keeps up his 51.11 yard Punt average into regular season we could very well have a Top 3 Punter and Top 3 Placekicker. Last year 51.0 per Punt (Jack Fox AP-1) led the league

I was looking at the punts so far this preseason and they're kicking the snot out of the ball. Across the board, better than last year. I wonder if there's some minor modification that's making this happen or if the philosophy has changed and they want more distance and don't worry quite as much about not outkicking coverage.

Whelan is one of the NFL’s best Preseason Punters
#2 Gross Punt average 53.7 yards
#3 Net Punt average 45.4 yards
#6 Punts inside 20 (17 Punts Max)

And we gave him plenty of opportunities to punt this preseason. I hope we are less generous in the regular season.

I'm so glad we are starting the season with a solid kicker. Picking McManus up was a game changer.
This is the one factor that gives me optimism. Last season we were 5-5 in one score games including those before McManus came. He had 2 walk off wins and should have beaten the Bears with that 55 yarder. As improved as pundits think we are the toughness of our schedule can negate that resulting in many close games. We could even go 3-9 in close ones. But having at least a reliable kicker can get us some more wins.

If my memory serves me, we lost two games last year because of missed field goals by Narveson - and one of those games was against the Vikings. Narveson makes just one of those two that he missed, and Minnesota finishes 13-4, and if Narveson hits the FG in Philly, we finished tied and I think we play the Rams in the first playoff game instead of the Eagles.

And the year before the FG kicker did not live up to expectation either.
