It appears AV left GB tonight without a contract offer, but that appears to be, because TT is out of town right now and MM was with AV, so I assume they wouldn't offer anything without TT there probably to discuss it...but anways this was from the Boston Herald online:
Here’s the good news if you’re a Patriots fan:
Adam Vinatieri left Green Bay last night without having signed a free agent contract.
There was, on the other hand, a press release out of Foxboro announcing the Patriots’ first free agent signing. The Pats filled a spot at their greatest area of need when they inked former San Diego Chargers wide receiver Reche Caldwell to a deal. Terms of Caldwell’s deal were not available.
The Pats now have three receivers with substantive NFL experience under contract for next season in Deion Branch, Bethel Johnson and Caldwell. They will need three or four more signings/draft picks at the position to fill out the ranks prior to training camp.
It’s unlikely the Pats view Caldwell as a No. 2 receiver behind Branch.
Meanwhile, Vinatieri left Green Bay last night without a contract following a two-day visit. The prevailing wisdom was that the Packers were serious about offering Vinatieri a mega-deal, otherwise the visit would not have taken place.
Vinatieri is likely looking for the largest deal ever given to a kicker, which would mean an annual salary well over $2 million per season and a signing bonus north of $3 million. He is close with Packers executive Andrew Brant, who served as the kicker’s agent for his first few seasons with the Patriots. Yesterday, Vinatieri toured the facilities and met with Packers coach Mike McCarthy. General manager Ted Thompson was out of town.
