So just so I can figure this out in my own head...
These are illegal formations? Because the rt is uncovered and undeclared...
Wr1 Te T G C G T
Wr.2 Qb
Rb Rb
Wr1 Wr3 T G C G T
Wr2 Qb
Rb. Rb
Didn't post how I typed it but wr2 is in slot off of the line of scrimmage. Qb is behind center and rbs split behind the qb
Football 101:
you must have 7 men on the LOS. Period. If you do not, illegal formation, 5 yard penalty. 10 second runoff if you are within the last 2minutes of the half.
The two players on the End of the line are eligible receivers. Typical a tight end and a wide receiver. This is also why we have the old term “split end” to speak to wide receivers. They are on the end of the line but split out wide.
Slot receivers and backs are not on the line. Technically they are inthe backfield.
If the split or tight end is not the widest man, that wider man is called a flanker.
Watch the WRs on any snap. You’ll note the widest guy will often look to the ref and his side to confirm that he is or is not on the LOS. For example, if you have two WRs on the same side of the formation and both are on the LOS, the inside WR is not eligible on that play.
So now why did Williams need to become a TE for that snap?
1) Idont think they had 7 men on the line.
2) Lineman numbers 50-79 cannot be eligible unless they report as eligible to the ref. And since the last man on the line must eligible, again, illegal procedure.
