I am trying to time a 93 Chevrolet 350 EFI... can anyone walk through the proper way to time it without a timing light..

We have the firing order correct..

    1 8 4 3 6 5 7 2

We have the timing mark TDC ont en the compression stroke and the disto cap rotated to one... however we have to advance the cap about a quarter turn to get any fire.. however it runs rough..

Any knowledgeable help would be appreciated... thanks in advance.

let the vehicle run til it hits normal temp
    rev it at 2k rpm
    dial in the dist cap

Personally, I'd go to your local auto parts store and drop $50 on a timing light. They're fun as heck. What I described above is what I did with mine and worked great. You wanna go for a smooth consistent sound while its being revved.

NO, no, no.....it is almost always the meta-stable helium magnetometer.

Sorry 93z, not a gearhead..... but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express! :)

    Good luck with that problem!

Have you tried asking for assistance over at that Purple Place? :p

I understand that they are fairly knowledgeable on a broad range of topics. :)

I have invested a good chunk of coin into it.. I am starting to think PackinSteel might be right.. buy a new flux capacitor..

Never have I felt like beating an object like I did Wednesday night.. talk about pissed.. if I had a dollar for every swear word that ran through my head.. I could have bought a new truck.

Sorry to hear that my amigo.....sorry that I can't offer any advice.

Whenever I have a problem like that, I walk away from it for awhile, clear the head so to speak....usually helps.

    If not...........perhaps..............
