The Detroit Tigers ( my team) clinched a playoff spot last night, for the first time in 10 years. Sellers at the trade deadline, filling their lineup with 1st and 2nd year players, (12 Rookies currently) 25 and younger, are 31-11 since August 11th. Eventhough I'm a Tigers fan, I also root for the Brewers, and I'm hopeful for a Tigers/Brewers World Series. In my youth, we used to make the trip to Milwaukee to watch the Tigers and Brewers, most years. In fact, I've seen more MLB games played in Milwaukee, than I have in Detroit. We were at the season ending series in '81 at County Stadium, when the Brewers clinched the 2nd half of the strike shortened season, to make the playoffs, with a 2-1 victory on Saturday over the Tigers. The Brewers and Tigers entered that series tied, so the winner of the 3 game series would make the playoffs and play the Yankees, who won the 1st half. The Brewers won games 1 and 2, so our Sunday tickets weren't as meaningful, but it was an awesome memory of watching Tigers/ Brewers baseball. I wish the Brewers and their fans the best of luck in the playoffs, and hopefully a World Series appearance. For me, the Tigers and Brewers playing October baseball is always special, and I can't wait to see the postseason unfold.
