Since this was starting to be discussed a bit in the Perry thread, I thought it deserved a thread of its own. Obviously too early to say for sure and it's likely to change a bit between now and then, but this would be my best guess as to what we have right now.

QB (3) Rodgers, Tolzien, Hundley
I think Tolzien is the clear favorite for backup this year, but Hundley is unlikely to clear waivers and make it to the practice squad. So I think 3 QB's is likely again.

RB (4) Lacy, Starks, Crockett, Kuhn
Crockett beats out Neal for RB3, Kuhn sticks around for 1 more year. Ripkowski clears waivers and winds up on the PS.

TE (4) (Quarless, Rodgers, Perillo, Backman)

OL (8) (Sitton, Lang, Linsley, Bulaga, Bahktiari, Tretter, Barclay, Taylor)

WR(6) (Nelson, Cobb, Adams, Montgomery, Janis, Abbrederis)
6 is a bit much, but as others have pointed out, Montgomery is likely to be used as more of a WR/RB/return specialist than a traditional WR. In any event, 6 isn't a ridiculous number for a pass-happy offense.

DL (6) Raji, Guion, Daniels, Jones, Boyd, Pennel
I'm keeping Thornton off based on his awful showing last August. If he's much improved, he earns a spot. I wanted to include Ringo, but I'm running out of roster spots here. He's a good practice squad candidate.

DB (10) Shields, Hayward, Hyde, Rollins, Randall, Goodson, Burnett, Clinton-Dix, Richardson, Glover-Wright
Seemed like the right year to just group the CB's and safeties together as some will likely fit into both roles. Glover-Wright is my dark horse to make the 53 this year.

LB (9) Matthews, Peppers, Neal, Perry, Ryan, Barrington, Bradford, Elliot, Thomas
After the first 6, it's really anyone's guess.

ST: (3) Crosby, Masthay, Goode
Masthay gets the benefit of the doubt and 1 more year to rebound.

I agree mostly with your roster with a few difference.

1.) I think Hundley gets Practice Squad instead of roster spot for the first few weeks.

2.) I think maybe Tretter gets cut.

3.) Until Raji gets through training camp injury free I'm not giving him a spot. Guion also we don't know how long he's suspended IF he's suspended.

4). I think Jemauria Rasco impresses and makes the 53 man roster as a back up.

5.) I think we cut Rodgers, he's not worth the money and go with Tolzien.

Yeah ok I couldn't type 5 without laughing either!

I'd be surprised if we only kept 3 TE. I don't think TT has ever gone that light at that position. If we are going to add a remaining FA yet before training camp, that would be one position where I would expect it.

Well I think we will keep 5 TE/FB's in total. So I think we might keep only 3 TE's if we keep both fullbacks.

I'll just state that I'm really high on Coxson (UDFA WR) and while I doubt he makes the active roster this year, I hope he sticks on the practice squad. I've said before I'm a Gators fan and Coxson was recruited by Urban Meyer to replace Harvin, but Coxson left the program when his dad was diagnosed with diabetes. Just being recruited out of high school to replace Harvin is no guarantee of success but Coxson has some serious physical gifts.

I could see us going with only 3 TE's. it just seems we have a lot more talent at different positions that I'd rather we keep around than use them so we can have 2 more bodies at TE. I suspect Rodgers will make a jump this year, and Quarless is what Quarless is, but beyond that, I don't think anybody is someone we "have" to keep. Especially if we have other more talented players to make room for.

Abbredarius doesnt make the squad IMO, practice squad maybe. Ripkowski practice squad. Ringo does make it in. We will keep 6 D-line besides Guion. Undrafted rookie CB Gunter makes the team.

I think Rasco from LSU makes our final 53 too. I think Rasco and Crockett will make the best case out of our undrafted rookies to make our squad.

I think the last 3 WRs battle it out for 2 spots.

I'm pretty sure Montgomery is a shoe in for the final 53 unless he just flat out sucks during camps and preseason. But I heard he really stood out during rookie camp.

Read an article on Ripkowski potentially replacing Kuhn by season end and keeping 2 fullbacks impacting how many tight ends we keep.

Janis might be the odd one out, or one goes down with an injury

I would give Janis an edge over Abbrederis based on health and productive time in the system. But I hope both are on the final roster.

McCarthy said he expects Janis to take a big step this season. I know coaches say these things, but I think it would take a pretty bad training camp for him to be left out.

I think Hundley gets Practice Squad instead of roster spot for the first few weeks.

I'm convinced Hundley would be claimed by another team if we try to move him to the practice squad. I expect the Packers to keep three QBs once again.

As some others have already pointed out I agree that the team will most likely keep five TEs/FBs on the 53 and Ripkowski to make the roster. IMO Perillo and Backman will battle for the final spot.

Rodney at Packers Notes has an article titled, "Roster spots at a Premium" http://packersnotes.com/2015/05/roster-spots-at-a-premium-in-green-bay/ Here's what he has to say about QB and why some of us are less than enthusiastic about trading up for Hundley:
The Packers would prefer not having to keep three for a second straight season, but the only way they can keep two is if fifth-round pick Brett Hundley beats out journeyman Tolzien. That’s possible, but unlikely. So both players figure to stick, meaning GM Ted Thompson won’ t be able to keep a good prospect at another position.
For the sake of roster spots it would be best if Hundley beats out Tolzien but as Rodney says that's unlikely - IMO extremely unlikely. Being able to keep the 54th best prospect without exposing him to waivers (to get him to the PS) may not be a big deal, but that's the reason the Packers would prefer to have 2 QBs on the active roster and a developmental QB on the PS.

I think even the front office and coaching staff consider it highly unlikely that Hundley will beat out Tolzien for the backup spot. Trading up and actually using two picks on him tells me that they won't move him to the practice squad though so I'm not convinced the Packers prefer to only have two QBs on the roster.

Offense streamlined with high quality starters and backups. P.S. will hold a large emergency corps for deep depth.

3 QBs- Rodgers, Tolzien, Hundley
3 RBs- Lacy, Starks ,Neal
2FBs- kuhn and Ripkowski. Emergency insurance for TE position.
3 TEs- Rodgers, Quarless playing most snaps. Backman. If a main TE goes down, we will shift to spread with more WRs.
5 WR- Nelson, Cobb, Adams, Montgomery, Janis
7 O-line- Bahktiari, Sitton, Linsley, Lang, Bulaga. Barclay, Gerhart. We are banking on the big 5 staying healthy. Barclay T/G, gerhart C/G. (practice squad will have 2 new big boys, rookies Rotheram, and Ebbele maybe).

Defense finally has the depth it needs to play against the best. and stop them...

7 Dline- Raji, Daniels, Guion, Jones, Boyd, Ringo, Pennel
10 LBs- Mathews, Peppers, Perry, Barrington, Neal, Elliot, Hubbard, Ryan, Rasco, Bradford.
10 S/CB- Sheilds, Hayward, Hyde, Dix, Burnett, Randall, Rollins, Richardson, Goodson, Gunter.

Special teams

3- Crosby, Masthay, Goode.

I think they'll carry 24 on offense and 26 on defense. I expect to see 7 on O- line, 7 on d-line, 3 QB's, 6 Wr's, 3 Te's, 5 RB's, 10 LB's, 9 DB's. Of course, injuries forthcoming during camp will change all that probably.

Might it be possible the Packer brain trust is not as enamored of Tolzien as many local enthusiasts might have it?

Tolzien's on a one year contract.

If the thinking is that a 2016 upgrade at #2 is needed, that outweighs the value of the last roster spot manned by a guy who won't see the game day active roster barring an injury to a second stringer.

The idea of using a couple of day 3 picks for some decent QB raw material sounds like a good idea to me. And if the raw material is good enough that PS presents a risk the player will be stolen, so be it.

Then there's the alternative...lesser raw material to be stashed on the PS that nobody else was (or is) interested in. That would be guys like Coleman and Harrell, and perhaps Tolzien as well.

I'd be surprised if we kept Crockett instead of Ripkowski. If we are committed to using the FB in the future, then he needs to be active on the 53 man. Kuhn's not getting any younger and it seems very likely this could be his last year. Keep Ripkowski activated to fill in if Kuhn goes down and get some experience.

I'm slightly with HRE on the QB issue. If Hundley lights up the preseason I think that he displaces Tolzien on the roster. While I liked the way that Tolzien generally played in Rodgers' absence in 2013, the fact remains that he could close out drives and win games. If he can't beat out Tolzien then I don't think there is a large danger in him clearing waivers.

The overall assessment from me is that the Packers are still screwed if Rodgers goes down whether they keep two or three QBs on the active roster. Therefore I'd pick the best / most promising in the litter and roll with two active QBs. You've got to gamble somewhere on your roster every season. There is never a clean answer at all positions.

My guess is that Hundley will not be anywhere close to being better than Tolzien by September. I think they are more likely to start the season with 7 OL on the roster assuming that Barclay is ready to go.
