Terrence Murphy WR, Texas A&M War Room analysis - The Sporting News Murphy is a developmental prospect who won't contribute much to the Packers as a rookie. He will grow with Aaron Rodgers, and both quarterback and receiver will be in great position to help the team in 2006. Murphy is a big-time speedster and a downfield threat, but he is very raw with average hands. He needs to improve at the mental aspects of the game. PRE-DRAFT ANALYSIS Hands: Has adequate hands, but can make spectacular catches. Fights the ball a bit when trying to catch passes at full speed. Grade: 6.6. Patterns: Is smooth, and shows excellent change-of-direction skills. Must improve ability to read defenses and find soft spots in zones. Will make plays downfield because of speed and leaping ability. Grade: 6.5. Run after catch: Is a legitimate threat because of great speed and explosive second gear. Makes defenders miss in the open field, and can run away from most defenders. Grade: 7.5. Release: Does not get muscled around. Shows good quickness to escape jams. Grade: 7.0. Blocking: Is strong, and has a good build. Works hard, and has developed good technique. Plays with good leverage, gets into position and works to sustain blocks. Is durable and tough. Grade: 7.2. Bottom line: Murphy, a quarterback in high school, made a quick adjustment to wide receiver and was extremely productive. He lacks elite size and must become more consistent catching passes on the run. He has explosive speed and is a great athlete. He could develop into a fine No. 2 receiver and an elite kick return man. He needs polish but his speed, athleticism and upside potential will keep him in the third round. Dan Pompei analysis Great hands are his best quality. Can catch a bad pass. Will make spectacular catches. Has quick feet and can avoid defenders. Is big and fast. Runs good routes. Is fairly tough. Doesn't separate as well as you'd like. Can return kicks. News Happy with his sprints at the NFL Combine, Murphy skipped the 40 at A&M's pro day workouts. He performed well in quickness drills and leaps.
