I think there's supposed to be a guy on the team who is tasked with adapting and overcoming unexpected and unpleasant developments. If we had one of those...

Between 1972 and 1992 took 20 years. We cannot let that happen again.
Milani maybe that’s why I’m battle hardened to these games where we spiral. I started watching football in the early 70’s and it was just our identity to lose. Football was mostly a sideshow to watch while doing another activity otherwise it would ruin your day.

Fans that only watch modern era (call it the last 30 years) have been spoiled with success.

They certainly had. But there were many teams that saw huge droughts and you feel for their fans. The question is do you flounder for a season or two or do you become a perennial loser.

Well sometime a full shakeup is one of those grass isn’t greener on the other side. Some in here just assume we’ll not skip a beat and that’s rarely true. I true shakeup and at minimum we’re probably talking 3yrs to regain footing and possibly we’d going a search for relevance that last a decade or more.

Last year showed some signs of progress but we just could not overcome key injuries. Zach either missed a bunch of time or played injured when he was out there. He’s becoming a concern now.

As we talked about earlier. The sheer number of draft picks next year will help. Particular if we pick in the middle Rounds or earlier. Recall we accumulated 3 extra draft picks in RD3-4 area also trading or walking away from starters (Malik, Rasheed, Gary, Doubs, etc) That’s a great place to retool. I like RD4 at LB, TE, RB or even OG/OC.
I still think Sean is playing out of his comfort zone and if there was a 3rd year Center of Guard before deadline that is Starter capable and rising I might like using a Day 3 draft pick to lock him down for a couple years. I’d prefer someone who’s had a year starting experience of more.

Not Packers injuries related, but Mayfield with the thumb injury and Williams a 3-4 week thing, looks like Packers might be facing a few backups next 2 weeks.
Should reduce the point spread from 14 point underdogs to possibly 6.

Well we could use any help right now. Although not exactly how I’d want it to play out, but every team goes through injuries. I knew Caleb wouldn’t be back. Ben Johnson really thinks everyone is just dumb as a tick. He claimed Caleb was a gametime decision for Monday. What the heck is that guy smoking

Or plateau as a winning team each season but with limited success if the post-season.

I don't ever remember GB having an OL this bad. Lombardi couldn't coach this team up.

Right. When he had his plan he evaluated the people he had. And if they did not fill the bill he shopped elsewhere. Of course, he did not have to deal with these contracts.
A good example of putting the right position player in place was Jim Ringo. Ringo was smaller than all centers in the league. However, he was very astute. He was fast. His ability to cut block either the DT or the MLB was exactly what Lombardi wanted to run his power sweep. Bigger, slower centers just would never get there.

True. But we were surprisingly 10-4 in 1972 and won the division with a young team. After that it was a long drought.
Sure, it's all subjective. However, having lived through it (and well before) the three losing seasons of the four prior to '72 count as the start of the Gory Years for me, with '72 itself just being there to give us a little confidence, with those hopes being dashed for the next two decades.

The way I remember it.The Redskins outed us by only worrying about the run in the playoff game. We didn't have a QB who could throw worth a damn. We only had Brockington, who was great, but he couldn't do it alone. Can't go very far when you can't throw the ball. I guess we didn't realize the importance of a QB for too long. We were trying to play 3 yards and a cloud of dust. These days we have been thinking we can get by with a mediocre O line. And Rashon and VanNess were two high picks that failed. We'll see but our 2 high OLine picks are also trending to the downside. Can't win without a few horses in the trenches.

Dashed is exactly the word.
