It takes time to come back from season ending ACL injuries. Kraft will be on a pitch count and Parsons will miss 5 to 6 games before he gets on the field. So far, the 2026 injury situation is a carry over from last year. Is ZBB ready? Since he didn't get tested much in the pre-season, who knows but he may take months to get back to his form judging from other O linemen. Jacobs isn't injured but he's also going to miss a lot of time.

The team will face at least the first 6 weeks of the season we'll below full strength. That sucks but the 2025 injury situation was so extreme, its handicapped the next season.
Well said. Kraft will be on a pitch count for - hopefully - only the first 2 or 3 games. Parsons won't be back until early/mid October.

I don't know if this puts them well below full strength. Parsons absence will be felt the most. I'm more concerned with the situation at RB. Hopefully Lloyd can put that concern to rest…...

But yeah, it will be week 6 or so for this team to be fully healthy - and that includes a big assumption that more injuries won't happen - a big "if".

So far, the special teams look much improved. Looks like we have an actual coach. I love Achord's enthusiasm. Hopefully, Smack keeps on his hot streak. I like the way the ball comes off his foot. High trajectory and most have been down the middle. We'll see what happens when it's for real. I like his kickoffs, too. Puts alot of them are inside the 5, leading to poor field position. Return game has also looked good. Moore is a legitimate punt returner. Haven't seen that for awhile.
I also like Achord. Did anyone see his press conference when he used a pen to demonstrate how the place should position the ball depending on the wind? Interesting. His demeanor kinda reminded me of Hafley.

Not just Lloyd's injury history but the fact that he is for all practical purposes, a rookie. You cannot fathom the difference between a veteran like Jacobs who is so familiar with the offense and the game itself and someone young and new. Along with that there is the experience in crucial situations especially crunch time when you have to have ice in your veins. A failed block, a fumble, a mental breakdown, a dropped pass, hitting the wrong hole, all of which can happen with inexperience. And behind Lloyd there is very little mileage in the backfield.
This could be our Achilles heel this season. Love has to throw. Teams know that. They will bring pressure.
MLF must construct an offense designed for that to move the chains and limit playing behind the sticks in order to keep our offense out of harm's way.

My cousin grew up and lives right next to Foxborough. She's a HUGE Patriots fan and goes to every game. I was not excited about the process where we ended up with Cam Achord. However, my cousin knows him and said we got one of the good coaches.

"Calf issues are like hamstrings - they take longer to heal than expected."

Good observation. Calf injuries usually involve the soleus, a band of tissue connecting the heel to the knee (approximately……). Many years ago, when I ran marathons, I injured the soleus about a month before the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon. The injury took about 6-8 weeks to heal properly, and yeah, I missed the marathon.

Like an injured hamstring, returning to activity too soon will set a person back to where they were when the injury first occured.

And the injury is painful. For me, it wasn't noticeable walking. But if I tried to run, it felt like an ice pick stuck in the middle of my calf.

Hopefully the injury to Brinson isn't serious and he can start against the queens.
Funny story I had a pulled calf muscle the very same time Aaron Rodgers did back in like 2013-2014. While I was in my 40’s, l remember not being able to fully heal for about 3-4 months. For the first month or so, I was limping just trying to walk my dogs a couple blocks.

Notice we also traded for TE, Redmond. After watching some film study he reminds me alot of Mercedes Lewis. Lewis was quicker in his 20’s but eventually he lost his speed and was really more of a 6th OL that could occasionally roll out for a Pass if left unattended. That’s what Redman reminded me of. He’s a better blocker than pass catcher, but not immune to catching the ball when left alone. In some blocking formations he was surprisingly locked in and wrestling a 250-260 Edge right off the line.

We’ve got a nice assortment of TE’s now all with varying strengths and we kept 4 which is significant. I have Jonnu as a slight upgrade over Musgrave and if he’s able to click a little more with Jordan? Defenses will have to account for that.

Take out Jonnu Rookie season and his 1 off last year? He’s averaging 450 yards and 4 TD’s over that 7 year stretch. That’s a nice compliment to Kraft with a ton of experience.

Hope they each can execute their assignments.

Sure. I do know a couple things that will help.
1. Redman played under Mike LaFleur in his Rookie season. It’s my suspicion that Mike endorsed him when asked.

2. When he spoke to Coach Dunn and they began going over the playbook. He was like “I know that play, I know that play, I know that play too!” We are probably most similar to a Rams style Offense, so the learning curve speeds up.

3. He’s a Y Tight End. Matt and Brian were looking for someone that could Block first, but offered complimentary receiving chops. Redman plays with grit with his hand in the dirt and blocking is his role. He’s every bit of his 260+lb frame. That part I’ve witnessed on film.

Brian said he felt fortunate to land such a perfect fit. He’s really ideal without having to spend away big draft capital in a trade if there was even one available.

Agreed and all good points. Can't overstate the importance of losing Jacobs experience. Lloyd is a rookie. There's no time like show time. The acquisition of Johnson was good, but at this point, a backfield of Lloyd/Johnson is hardly inspiring. I hope they excel in the underdog role.

Landing both TE Redman and RB Johnson were fortunate breaks. Redman will allow Kraft to be much more aggressive on offense. They do need to get Musgrave back to keep opposing Ds from doubling Kraft.

As for the RB tandem of Lloyd/Johnson - ummm, who? Hardly inspiring but here's to them surprising us in a good way.

James Starks surprised us later in 2010. Of course, his offensive line blocked very well. Maybe someone will surprise us this year.

If they don't surprise us and MLF continues with a more run heavy offense (or at least an offense that doesn't pass as much as the league average), then I don't know what we are paying a QB 50M for.

This year should be a coming out party for Love. He's played very well but been restricted. Hopefully he has time and a bit of a running game

If the running is successful THEN it may become run heavy. This year it is more likely a pass heavier offense.
And you know that Favre was the well paid QB in some of the best rushing years in Packer history.

Good point from Packer history. The year they won the SB I think Starks was their top back, or maybe it was someone else - I just remember Starks playing well late in the season/playoffs.

Hiya Fire. I think the Packers have played a balanced offense since Love has been starting. His comp has far less to do with his play than whether the team is winning, although they need solid QB play to do that.

Do I think Love is overpaid? Yep, no doubt. But that's the way it rolls in the NFL. If the Packers hadn't paid him, some other team would have.

If they have a run-heavy offense it will be because Lloyd, Johnson, or both are playing well. Fine w/me and keeps the defense honest against the pass, especially if the Packers are successful with RPO.

Good points. If the Packers have a successful, run-heavy offense this season, I'd be happy. That means that Lloyd and/or Johnson are playing well. No problem with that, and a good run game makes Love a better QB.

I hope it is because of that and not because of some ingrained thought process for MLF. My comments weren't that I thought Love was overpaid or even what I thought should have happened in previous years, but rather comments related to this moment in time with the 2 running backs that are present. If they aren't effective and MLF is just trotting out run heavy 1st down plays cuz 'that's what I do' I'll pull the rest of my hair out this year.

Yes and MLF had better be prepared for a Blitz % somewhere between 45-55%. There’s zero chance that Flores will play it safe on his heels.

We need Two outlet Receiver options for that over pursuit that understand placement in this game. Rather than take a Sack throw it at their feet or at least skip it past them to avoid grounding. Do not take -9 stuff.

Your probably right but I don't like it. Just because the running game is successful, you don't have to become run heavy. imho keep them guessing and lets see what Jorden has. Yeah, we want to win regular season games. But the ultimate goal is the playoff run. And us being run heavy won't cut with the big boys in the playoffs. Not with our O line. But having a good running attack along with a more open passing attack can.

Yes, a balanced offense is the best. With that said, depending where the games are played, running the football is key in December and January.

Being able to run the ball and dominating with the running game are not exactly the same. Now if you have your starting QB out like the Ravens did last December and you have Henry in the backfield and you are playing the Packers, yes, you run, run, run. And they did.

LOL. Starks was about all we had. Brandon Jackson was more of a role player.

Agreed Fire. If the run game is ineffective or less effective because of the lack of talent of the RBs, MLF has a big problem.

Running the same plays will lead to a lot of run-run-pass-punt sequences, much like we saw in the 70s and 80s. MLF will have to get creative and build a pass-heavy offense that can still succeed in spite of a weak run game. Not easy. Love is good enough to pull this off (not $55m/year worth, but that's another topic). Love does have a very good group of WRs and Kraft, maybe Musgrave to make the pass game work.

Well let's hope Lloyd and Johnson provide an effective one-two punch in the run game.
