zero times if you never sign them LOL

PS him if nothing else to test the waters

I wouldn't if he hasn't been a good locker room guy. I guess that was what I was inferring when I listed the time he spent on teams roster.

I am all about giving talented players 2nd and maybe even 3rd chances, but a 7th chance? He's have to look like a completely new player to potentially shakeup the dynamics of my team to do that. Remember, when you bring in a new guy, it often means cutting an existing guy.

See I tend to picture a few (1-3) spots on PS is literally for this reason of cycling through guys in and out until one clicks...

I tend to see a lot more potential value out of him than McCallan Castles or Drake Dabney or Jaylin Simpson or even Lecitus Smith as well...

You talking health wise? LVN was awesome this year when healthy if talking ability.

I guess you and I differ a bit on "awesome". While he has been better than he was in his 2 previous seasons, I think some of that has been a result of "The Parsons Effect." I feel the same way about our secondary looking better this season. This is very similar to "The Rodgers Effect" and how some thought we had a lot of talent at WR in Rodgers final years.

To date, I generally view LVN as a 1st round bust, especially at pick #13. I hope that Gute doesn't fall into the "I spent a high pick on him, I have to see it through" trap. I mean sure, if the price is right and the Packers see a continual growth in the guy, give him a minimum extension to prove himself. They have Parsons and Gary. At this point, I would rather see Enagbare and Cox extended and be unleashed.

Awesome may have been a stretch but that's the excitement in seeing his progression - dude was good and truly starting to be that player so many scouts saw his potential as.

I'll concede awesome and say good. :)

Maybe mentioned already, but if they were to bring a DT in I would rather see it from another teams practice squad. At least they would have been practicing all season. Bringing in a street free agent doesn't really make sense to me. Sure, maybe they were working out and are healthy, but they are free agents for a reason. They would also take some time to get into football shape. I'm good with Brinson getting more snaps.

@Pokerbrat2000 I could see them not pick up the option but do a Watson type extension slightly smaller extending their time with him givne his ascending ability and growth has been steady upward.
I thought we were talking about the d lineman we brought in for a look-see

Darius slay was cut from a contender trying to make a run….how valuable do you think he is?
Slay was released - it was a mutual agreement - because the Steelers were desperate for a WR and signed Adam Thielen who asked MN for his release. I have no clue if Slay is worth kicking the tires...

The Packers released WR Will Sheppard (off the 53) and I am guessing they will resign him to the PS, which means that if they do, it will be back to 17 players.

They also released (off the PS) WR Michael Woods II and cornerback Tyron Herring. Then they signed CB Shemar Batholomew to the PS.

Packers practice squad update

  • QB: Clayton Tune
  • RB: Pierre Strong Jr.
  • WR: Isaiah Neyor, Jakobie Keeney-James
  • TE: McCallan Castles, Drake Dabney
  • OT: Brant Banks
  • OG: Dalton Cooper
  • OC: Lecitus Smith
  • DE: None
  • DT: James Ester, Dante Barnett (international exemption)
  • LB: Jamon Johnson
  • CB: Shemar Bartholomew (signed yesterday)
  • S: Johnathan Baldwin, Jaylin Simpson
  • K: Lucas Havrisik
  • P: None
  • LS: None

I think that could be very good for Pittsburgh. They needed another receiver

Green Bay signs Jordon Riley from the Giants practice squad.

He actually got 5 starts in 2024 with the Giants, wasn't special in college but noticeable I remember back in the 2023 draft class.

My notes say good at pressure but its the only aspect of his game I liked, struggles against run and reading blocks and really doing anything other than interior pressure.

This was a new (to me) fun fact. If the next time you are playing NFL Trivia and are asked; "Was Terry Crews ever a Green Bay Packer?" Answer "Yes, he was, in the Summer of 1993."

What's the over and under on "Snaps taken, before Lloyd gets injured again"?

What’s weird is his current limited “LP” status lists a Calf injury. Now you know I’m a fan of Marshawn but I about fell over when I saw that! Made me wonder if that’s why Matt was kinda testy when asked about Lloyd back 4-5 weeks ago. Did he actually injure his Calf during his Hammy recovery.. or is that a typo?

Just a thought. Imo Everyone on Staff was fully aware of Marshawn collegiate injury history. IMO this was the reason he wasn’t selected earlier. His consensus was earlier 4th Round if I recall. However that factored some injury concerns. Imo without any injury he would’ve possible been in that Top 75 area or back of RD2. After His Pro Day he looked so dynamic some in the know thought he was the “sleeper” Day1 RB.

I remember him because I wanted us to select a complete RB. Tyrone Tracey Jr was my third choice behind Brooks/Lloyd and he bounced on and off my draft board and hundreds of interactive Mocks IF Lloyd was gone.
I Remember for myself to be thankful. My first Choice? was Longhorns Jonathon Brooks. Marinate on that and Lloyd doesn’t look so bad!

I digress to original question. I still think there’s a 55/45 we have our James Starks on board. Actually I think Lloyd is better than Starks and I thought Lacy/Starks was a top5 1-2 punch. If Lloyd gets healthy I predict he’s going to be highly motivated. Like next world Motivated. Jacobs has been encouraging him and has been super impressed after studying Marshawn and he’s publicly made it known. I’d still put $ on he’s going to contribute 2025 playoffs, which is actually almost ideal.

This new nose tackle from the Giants sure is big. I hope he's motivated. Not very reassuring that he was on their practice squad but sometimes players just end up in purgatory.

I don't know a whole lot about Jordan Riley, but grabbing a guy off of a teams practice squad, that has solid players on the roster ahead of that guy, is a good sign. Dexter Lawrence is a beast. D.J. Davidson is the Giants other NT and he seems pretty serviceable.

Anyway, I hope Riley works out and I have to think that he was Gute's best available option right now to try and improve the DL after the loss of Wyatt.

From the little bit of research I’ve done he’s very “Brinson- like”. Yet a little more seasoned and actually bigger. His early NFL player grades are not impressive (high 40’s PFF) That said his Anchor ability is interesting. I watched some film where he is unmoved and just stalemates at Shade and over Center. You don’t push him around and my opinion is he’s closer to a lean 325lb than 315lb if you will. He’s an Ox. He measured 6’5.5” and 338lb on NFL.com out of Oregon. He’s a Ship Anchor and doesn’t get moved even an inch. The 315lb listing is ridiculous. When drilling with Stackhouse he makes him look like his little brother.

Matt went into cryptic mode this week when asked about Lloyd and him practicing again.

“I think it’s just to get them integrated back into practice and see where they’re at and take it one day at a time.”

I really wonder if Watson didn't get him (Lloyd) connected with the muscle specialist that discovered his hamstring issues was due to a massive muscular imbalance.

I hope he did. So far Watson seems to be holding up. Was that Badger Athletic Performance that Watson turned to?

I still think so many of these injuries are all about physics and Newtons Law of Motion. Athletes have been training to become bigger, stronger and faster. This creates a stronger force during impact on the field. To complicate matters, these bigger, stronger, faster athletes are being built onto bodies/frames/ligaments that have a difficult time withstanding these impacts or even to some extent, their own physical actions.
