Am I reading too much into it to be a bit worried about Lloyd?
Yes and no, it was a sign a RB and drop a RB. No real big move.

We have our two Wilson and Brooks that are solid covers for Lloyd until he is healthy.

If anything this could be a pick up again to continue to keep some reserve RBs we like because if Lloyd is healthy either Wilson or Brooks is getting exposed to waivers and we might be trying to find another guy we like

I think so. You should be worried about Lloyd either way.
J/K! Had we added a RB then that spells someone is injured or injured worse than we thought.

Plus Lloyd will miss another 3 contests, plus they’ll want to have him practice so we’re likely talking 4-5 weeks realistically (he’s a week into IR)

With Reed injured, and Watson still not ready to take the field, I wonder if the Packers will go out and find a free agent wide receiver. I believe Amari Cooper is still unsigned and at the veteran's minimum, he might be worth snaring. One thing is certain. All the talks of trading a WR we have today for a draft pick next year is pretty much history.

Tough to watch with Reed, he’s such an integral part of our Offense. Silver lining is I’m 90% he’ll be back in plenty of time for the stretch run.

Next week we travel to Cleveland to play the Browns. The following Sunday night (September 28) we travel to Dallas to play the Cowboys. It's a Sunday night game. I have a hunch it could be the most watched game of this entire season.

I think it's going to be a tough recovery for him but back before the season ends. He should be having that foot surgery while the shoulder is being cared for.

The biggest problem he faces is that he can't work on upper body strength and if he has the foot surgery, he's not going to do lower body either. I hate to say this but that could land him on the IR list until the season is over and possibly the entire year. It's not the recovery time for each it's the fact that he won't be doing any conditioning work.

Amari Cooper signed with the Raiders, and then retired

Jumping the gun on the Reed stuff. I'll be optimistic and go with the 6-8 timeframe that has been throw around. Don't think it is necessary to just go, oh well... just give him a bunch of surgeries and put him out for the season.

And really really have no desire to trade Doubs. Unless guys on the team don't like him, if the Packers start rolling I wouldn't want the Packers to disrupt the locker room with something stupid ala the Brewers trading Hader mid-season. Bad message IMHO.

I don't see why honestly. We still have Doubs, Wicks, Golden, Heath, Williams + Mecole Hardman on PS and we have TEs Kraft and Musgrave in the passing game too.

I forgot about Hardman. Scrub the search on the FA list. That's the guy we need. Sign someone to the practice squad that has some future potential in the same role.

And Watson will be back before the trade deadline, from the sound of it. I don't know what your opinion is, or what whispers you may have heard; but from what I've seen the offers from Pittsburg and New England are in the "4th rounder" range, but Green Bay was thinking more along the lines of a 3rd, and preferably an early one. My feeling is (and again, you know a lot more about this topic than I do) that the closer we get to the November 4th deadline, the more of a seller's market it will be.

I may have heard some of this conjecture here, in which case I apologize to whomever, but I've been reading material on this possible trade on so many sites, it all kinds of runs together.

Over the last several years we've been snake bitten with WR injuries, and at TE. I think that Gute & LeFleur are making sure that doesn't happen again. They may be overly protective, but I understand why based on the past. This could be the year they make it to the top and they don't want anything to disrail it.

Yeah I agree. You know I’m a fan of our move for Mecole in FA. I totally understood the choice to stay with a young player (Heath) who wins multiple ways, blocking, size, age etc..
It when fits our MO. Yet the only reason Mecole is on PS is we drafted Savion and Golden.
However we just lost our Slot. THAT is why you stash a Slot WR on PS. Mecole isn’t Jayden Reed, but he’s fully capable and filling at least a rotational role for 10 weeks or whatever.

I'm going to have faith in our coaches to choose who best to be on the field as far as receivers go. Mainly because it has gone kinda like I wanted and what choice do I have. Also Savion Williams looks like he might be ok. I have to see him catch the ball a few times though.

Savion is a bigger version of Ty Montgomery with more slash and speed IMO - which folks that is not a knock by any means.

As Savion settles and grow it will be frustrating to defenses to know is he the gadget or is he legit going to be a threat…those types can be deadly when schemed up

I do want to see him catch some balls though. See how he does. I don't want a guy like him unless he can catch. Imho

That's really a great point. Gute has already made it very clear that he's going all in over the next year or two; he's fully commited, right now, and there are a lot of decisions that in previous years he would never have considered, but he's willing to make now.

I paid my way through about 2 years of college in Stevens Point playing poker and blackjack in bars or in after-hours games. I was a very cautious player, but there were a number of times when I recognized that I had a really good opportunity, and I changed my entire way of thinking. You just have to be open to doing that when the time seems right.

Hard to say what Gute is thinking at the moment.

Eh yes and no, is he a guy if he doesn’t show he can win in routes and secure the ball downfield you invest in a second contract with - absolutely not.

But there is absolutely role if he is that Ty Montgomery swing toss, screen, motion bubbles and intermediate stuff with while you have him in here cheap.

Sometimes you settle Tyni. I don't care if he's a deep threat but he has to have good hands. I don't like drafting a guy and saying, well we slotted that type player in 2024 and so now to other positions for the next four years. If he doesn't catch the ball well, then we keep looking. imho. btw Montgomery wasn't as good as some here remember him being. He had a few good games. Savion is another in a getting to be a long line of a special type of player LaFleur wants. Hope he is good.

Savion isn’t a deep threat.

He is more diverse than Ty Montgomery but that is the best player reference folks might know.

He is a more skilled route runner than Ty was or folks know - TCU simply didn’t deploy as one much. He made Lattimore have to hold him with his one route which was killer.

His hands are above average and I think the biggest blessing is we don’t have to rush him into roles given the long line of guys ahead of him.

I’m not sure who’s making Ty Montgomery to be some great player, I only saw Tyni mention his player comp imo when you have a comparable or “player comp” it has more to do with the style or positional usage than it does laying a claim he’ll perform identical. Savion Williams most used comp was Ty Montgomery or Corderelle Patterson.

Much of the success of Savion will come down to how Matt uses him and possibly his health and positional health. Savion came in and immediately performed with 2 nice runs in just 12 total snaps. He’s only got like 3 carries, but he’s averaging 8.5 per. So if he plays an our primary KR and gets 3-4 carries per at that average I’d say that’s a good Rookie season.

As long as Jacobs can hold up we should be OK for now. We tend to get beat up elsewhere on the roster.

Ty was versatile but no more than average. MM used him the way he did by default. He did not have much else and Rodgers went down in one of those seasons. Ty fumbled away a big game in LA and in his first season got badly injured on a long pass. But I still remember his big play was a handoff by Hundley against the Bears that went for the longest run of the season. That Bear team could not tackle if their life depended on it.
