Speaking of odd rules, IMO, the waiver wire is one of them. I realize that the NFL has a goal of competitive parity, but this one is a bit whacked.

I knew that the waiver claim order is basically "worst to best" teams, like the draft, I didn't realize that a team is able to claim multiple players ahead of the next team. This year the Texans were #1 in the claim order, they grabbed 4 guys that other teams waived, before anyone else had a shot at them.

I want to say it’s over $45K monthly on PS. Obviously far less than making an active 53 roster all season. I don’t feel sorry for them!

I am guessing that if you interview all 512 Practice squad players + any IPP players on PS's, you would find some that a majority of them are very happy people. Would they love a shot at playing on Sunday? Of course they would. Are they ready for that shot? Maybe not today, but as we have seen in years past, many of them do get put on the 53 permanently, for 1 game or for several.

This notion of "it isn't fair to enslave them onto a PS of just one team" is hilarious. All 16 of those players CHOSE to sign with a team, knowing they would be on the Practice squad and the rules of being on on. Also knowing that they could get traded, called up or grabbed by another team.

If this notion bothers you, start fighting against the draft, waiver wire and contracts, because those things tie a player to more to a team, without giving them much recourse to increase their wages, by offering their services to another team.

This could be a serious situation for him. If it doesn't heal through inactivity, and it probably won't, surgery will put him out of action for a long time. Playing with it can be very painful and worsen the situation. He's going to be out for a while and should be. I think they should do the surgery and get it over and done.

These are players not able to make the 53 on another team. They may be better than some of the guys on your bottom teams, but they are probably not guys who are going to come in and make a difference.

Agree. I don't see many, if any, Practice squad guys that I would say; "Wow, he would be a starter, making millions, if he was on another team!"

and thus another reason that "tanking" at the end of the season can pay off in more ways than just draft position.

You have 100s of available players close in grade. Every team has different grades as well. I think there are plenty of options for 5 or 6 bottom dwelling teams.

Yes, but for one team to try and get all the best ones... What happens when a player would rather play on a different practice squad? Is it the 1st choice by the team or nothing for the player?

Players that were cut on Tuesday and claimed on waivers weren't put (initially anyway) on a teams practice squad, they had to be placed on a teams 53. Those not claimed could negotiate a practice squad spot with any team that was interested in them.

I'm with @Voyageur, if surgery looks like the best option, shut him down, IR him and have the surgery. Given Reed is our #1 WR (at the moment), I would rather have him healthy mid season and able to finish, than the "InJaire" situation where his availability from game to game is always unknown.

Golden is a rookie and as we all know, there hasn't been a lot of Packer rookie WR's that lit it up their very first season. Your assessment of Golden is correct. If he did have a year like the one Reed had, I'd be elated. Above that I'm jumping for joy. I think we need to face the reality that the one real value the Packers have at WR is the fact that Doubs is our chain mover and be glad he hasn't been "traded" like so many people in the media have stupidly suggested should happen.

The second half of the season with Watson & Reed healthy, teamed with Doubs and whomever among the receivers comes out of hibernation, and we're looking at a team that can get the job done in the air and be a threat to almost anyone, maybe everyone.

Reed has said he is going to play through the injury. This is an injury that other players have played through. Playing is not going to make it worse, that is from doctors, not from me.

Jayden will play week 1, barring a totally different injury occuring.

To add to my above post on Reed. The Packers doctors are very conservative, they would not clear Jayden to play, if playing would make it much worse. Every players particular injury and situation are different. Obviously Jayden has consulted with the Packers medical staff and has chosen to play.

Being able to play and being able to contribute significantly can be two different things all together. Of course, he chose to play if they said it probably wouldn't cause any more significant damage. But if you think he's going to be at 100% you're sadly mistaken.

We will see how much he contributes, that is unknown with every player each week.

I literally stated he has chosen to play through the injury. Playing with an injury is the definition of not being 100%. I am "mistaken" about NOTHING.

This. He has confirmed he cannot run routes pain free…now that could get better or wors…be a factor or not

It depends on the player. Sterling Sharpe played all season with turf toe. Couldn't even practice. Had a great year.
