Yeah announced a bit ago - his processing and diagnosis abilities just fail to come close to his physical potential. At this point in his career he is really just an elite teamer and limited rep type weapon....team I suspect is going to choose Welch over him due to Welch really offering defensive saviness.

I think this is a good lesson for many guys that get cut. Go talk to Ballentine or Welch. Great Teams players who work their tail off. They both get cut and move to other teams, then get cut again. Yet here they both are.. still hanging on to their dream. That’s very motivating for someone who barely misses the cut. Be it Hardman or Amar Johnson etc. it’s not over until it’s over. Prepare right and play with no regrets. Be courteous to others and thankful and you’d be surprised how often that turns into a flying another Sortie with your unit.

Agree. I also think guys like Welch and Ballentine had the benefit of knowing the defensive scheme, teammates and Coaches. As well as the coaches knowing what they are capable of.

Guys like Hardman and Simmons had an uphill battle from the jump. They came to a new team, with new playbooks, coaches and teammates.

No surprises on cuts to this point, in my opinion. The next few are where it gets a little tenuous for several players.

OFFENSE (24)

  • Quarterback (2): Jordan Love, Malik Willis
Not much to say here. We knew going in this was going to be the case.
  • Running back (3): Josh Jacobs, Emanuel Wilson, Chris Brooks
Jacobs is obviously the bell cow and a stud at that. Backups are meh, but good enough to fill in to rest Jacobs.
  • Wide receiver (6): Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Matthew Golden, Dontayvion Wicks, Savion Williams, Malik Heath
Well, Golden has looked like the real deal in camp. Now we have to see it on Sunday's. This is a solid group, but I still fell like it isn't a group of guys that strikes fear into opponents secondary.
  • Tight end (4): Tucker Kraft, Luke Musgrave, John FitzPatrick, Ben Sims
I really like this group. Kraft is an emerging star. Musgrave has looked like he took a step up this offseason. Fitzpatrick even looked good. I'm surprised they kept Sims.
  • Offensive line (9): Elgton Jenkins, Rasheed Walker, Aaron Banks, Zach Tom, Sean Rhyan, Jordan Morgan, Anthony Belton, Darian Kinnard, Donovan Jennings
We have a really solid starting offensive line. We also have some decent backups. I like this group a lot. I hope Banks can get over the back injury.

DEFENSE (26)

  • Defensive end (5): Rashan Gary, Lukas Van Ness, Kingsley Enagbare, Brenton Cox Jr., Barryn Sorrell
I'm not super stoked about this group. Gary is a solid starter, but not a star. Van Ness has yet to show up. Enagbare is purely a pass rusher. Cox is just a dude. Sorrell has a lot to prove being a rookie. Not the most talented group here.
  • Defensive tackle (6): Kenny Clark, Devonte Wyatt, Karl Brooks, Warren Brinson, Colby Wooden, Nazir Stackhouse
Clark is a stud, Wyatt is okay. The rest is meh. I'm concerned about our depth and talent at DT.
  • Linebacker (4): Quay Walker, Edgerrin Cooper, Isaiah McDuffie, Ty'Ron Hopper
I really love this group. Walker seemed to step up and it might be because of the emergence of Cooper. Cooper is a rising star. I've never been a McDuffie fan, but okay. I thought Hopper was a reach and wasn't going to make the team. However, he has played well in the preseason. Another group I have a crush on.
  • Cornerback (6): Keisean Nixon, Nate Hobbs, Carrington Valentine, Bo Melton, Kamal Hadden, Micah Robinson
I'm sure I'm not alone here in thinking that this group has me nervous. Nixon was fine as a special teamer. As CB1, not so much. I've never liked when he is on the field. I didn't understand the Hobbs move and still don't. He has never made it a full season and already had to have surgery. Not sure he will be ready by game one. Valentine, by the numbers, is the best of the group. That sounds icky to me. Then we have a converted WR with a rookie and a second year guy. Not thrilled here.
  • Safety (5): Xavier McKinney, Evan Williams, Javon Bullard, Kitan Oladapo, Zayne Anderson
Here's another great group of players. McKinney is a stud and Williams has looked really good again. Bullard and Oladapo is great depth.

SPECIAL TEAMS (3)

  • K: Brandon McManus
  • P: Daniel Whelan
  • LS: Matt Orzech
Great kicker and great punter. Let's go!

INJURED RESERVE (designated to return)

  • RB MarShawn Lloyd (hamstring)
Aye yai yai :(
  • OL Jacob Monk (hamstring)

PHYSICALLY UNABLE TO PERFORM (3)

  • WR Christian Watson (knee)
  • DE Collin Oliver (hamstring)
  • OL John Williams (back)

We need to lose 1 TE, and a CB. We need at least one more LB. Four is not enough for 3 positions that could be occupied at one time. If we end up with an injury amongst them we have problems at the second level of defense.

Agree, but that is also what the Practice Squad is for. Maybe we see a signing of LB that was cut from another team, but if Welch isn't picked up by another, I see the Packers signing him to their PS.

With how little the modern league uses base, I wouldn't be surprised if they try to keep number 5 on the PS and promote if necessary.

Agree.

I know a lot of people like Wilson, but I prefer Brooks over him. I think Brooks is going to show us more, now that he has a year under his belt with the playbook.

That said, I wouldn't mind seeing the Packers sign Audric Estime to the PS. Guessing the Broncos would be Estime's 1st choice though.

There is a lot to be said for having RB's on both the roster and PS that are really familiar with the playbook. Which the Packers have with Jacobs, Brooks and Wilson. Also, they have Lloyd healing on IR. So my guess is, Gute signs Johnson and/or Abanikanda to the PS and stays pat on the 3 he currently has on the 53.

As of now the Packers are the youngest team in the NFL for the third straight season. Hopefully, some of these draft picks will start being worth keeping past their rookie contracts. Hard to call yourself a Super Bowl contender when the team has a grand total of 10 players who are on their second or third contract (might jump to 12 once Jayden Reed and Tucker Kraft become extension eligible). In comparison, the Eagles have 17 players on those contracts (will be 20 this year once Jordan Davis, Nakobe Dean, and Jalen Carter become eligible for extensions). For a team that loves to build through the draft, shockingly few of the Packers recent draft picks are earning second contracts. My current existential fear for the team at the moment is that if Ed Policy decides that the team isn't improving, he gets rid of Gute (he's good but not great) and MLF; MLF is one of the best coaches in the league and getting rid of him would be a massive mistake.

I like Estime but I think he'd be a target for another team to sign if said team experiences a RB injury. He'd be a fun PS guy but I'm guessing the Packers wouldn't be able to hide him on the PS for very long.

Just my opinion, but I think it is far to early to "break glass and panic". Policy isn't going to rock the boat his first year in GB. The 2025 Packers are a much more experienced team than the 2024 Packers that finished 11-6.

As long as Love stays healthy, I think this team improves on that 11-6 and goes further into the playoffs.

I believe that 4 players on the PS can be protected from being poached, so there is that.

That rule lets the team protect 4 players on Tuesday and prevents another team from signing them until the following Monday.

Pretty sure you are incorrect.

While they can change who they are protecting each week, at no time can any of the 4 players that are protected, be signed by another team. So basically, "No, there isn't a 24 hour window where the entire PS is available to be poached."

The window you talk about would be silly, why have any protection at all, if such a window exists?
