Saw these on a Colts forum:

I'm sorry, but the Pats can eat it. It will be a cold day in hell if we trade them a good pass rusher unless Polian wants to get extra security from Colts fans.

Colts would have to be certifiable to trade Mathis to either the Pats or the Jets. The Falcons wouldn't be a bad idea if they can cough up the draft pick.

Just out of curiosity are the Pack that stingy with picks that even a third would not be worth it for any trade?

I know you are a build from the draft/keep your own organization mainly. Still......once in a while a trade works. *shrugs* We traded for McFarland in 2006 at the deadline from TB. A key reason we won a SB with a real DT finally. We never make those moves though, hardly ever.

Edit: Mathis might be 30, I think his age might be wrong at times in articles.

Are the Colts really trading Reggie Wayne and Mathis?

If that is true I am going to be very surprised. Thought they'd want to keep them.

Not sure, I find it tough to believe we can keep both in the offseason though. Mathis over Wayne is my preference. Might not be able to keep either, not sure yet.

Packers probably don't need to make a move or want to. Was just curious since I like the Packers and if we lost someone I could deal with them going to Green Bay.

Some of the rumored trade partners can make me nauseous. :)

I can see a team like San Francisco making a move on Reggie Wayne. They desperately need a WR after Morgan went down and they are just a good receiver away from really having a threatening offense.

We need another pass rusher. Big time. Somebody who could bring the pain opposite of Matthews would be so huge.

Do you think Mathis could play OLB in the 3-4? I don't know Mathis that well, but he strikes me as someone who might struggle.

No, we don't, and frankly, after seeing what Thompson and McCarthy have done with this team, I still don't understand why fans seem to think we need to trade picks for players. We went through this same crap last season with Marshawn Lynch, and we all know how that turned out.

But I digress. No, we don't need to add another pass rusher. I think we need to get some guys back and healthy but we don't need to trade draft picks for someone else's cast-off.

When you look at pass rush stats, Green Bay has the same number of sacks as Detroit on the season so far, and that's without Zombo, Mike Neal and with a banged up Clay Matthews. For what it's worth, Minnesota and Philadelphia are tied for second in the league for sacks while the Giants lead the league.

Plus it's not like we're not getting pressure. Green Bay has 27 hits on the quarterback so far this season, better than 5 per game. The Lions, by contrast, have hit the QB 19 times. Minnesota has 26, Philly has 28, and the sack leading Giants have 31 to date.

As you can see, our pass rush is fine, and will only improve once we have Zombo and Neal back. Even without them, we're still generating plenty of pressure and sacks. There's no need to panic and there's certainly no need to give up draft picks in the middle of the season for a guy that's not likely going to make a big difference anyway.

Yes, Thompson is that stingy, and frankly, I love it. Mid round picks are his bread and butter. Jermichael Finley, Morgan Burnett and James Jones were third rounders, and Josh Sitton and TJ Lang were 4th rounders. Most, if not all of these players are pro-bowl caliber players. No way in hell would I be willing to give up these prospective draft picks.

I never said anything about trading picks for players. I basically said that we could really use another great pass rusher. Yes, I overstated it a little, but come on, another pass rusher would be awesome.

Finally! I've found someone who feels the way I do about the Packer Defense. They have the talent. It's just a matter of getting it to all work together. Sure we saw some guys leave the team, but MM and TT knew those guys were expendable. I'm not going to second guess them after what they were able to do with all the injuries last year.

I forgot about Neal being out still. And Zombo coming back. Not sure if Zombo has played yet but I remember him getting hurt in preseason.

I don't think any moves are made by the Packers and yes I remember last years rumors about Lynch. Was just curious. I am a sucker for trades which hardly ever happen for my team anyway.

I was saying all year the Packers D was getting beat up too much by people based on numbers. Cam Newton is going to pass all over anyone probably. And you started the season with perhaps the toughest game on your schedule. You did not limit the Saints to few points but stopped them when it truly mattered. Your D makes big plays when it matters it seems.

Your D was carved up early in Atlanta but made amazing adjustments. Not easy to shut a team out on the road and despite the Atlanta struggles they have talent.

Really, I envy the well oiled machine at times that is the Packers. Good thing I like them so much. :)

Mathis is a pro-bowl caliber player. So you wouldn't take a pro-bowl caliber player for a third rounder in hopes you could get a pro-bowl caliber player in the draft with that pick? So, pass on the sure thing for the hopefully? I'm not saying it's the right thing to do, just saying that argument is pretty weak.

Not to sound pompous, but I'm not too sure if the Packers need them. They'd be a better fit on another team that needs the help. Plus, we got our own guys who have given much to this team, I think they should worry over their contracts first before we bring in another big player.

We need all the help we can get on the D-line. Our pass rush is downright awful right now. Mathis does play in a 4-3 scheme though, not sure how much of an impact that would have in fitting into a 3-4 defense.

But alas TT normally doesn't do stuff like this (giving up picks for other players) but it would, at this point in time, be nice to get some help rushing the passer.

If MM & TT feel Neal will not be back to help this year, I could see them exploring this option. TT most likely has a chart and value on all help that might become available. It's not like they'd bring him in to play every down but as a pass rush specialist. He'd be in a LB position in the 2 lineman nickel defense. I think the rumored 3rd round pick would be too steep. TT missed out on a few trades over the years because he held to his price. I think this one slides past also.

I think it is hard to say the pass rush is awful given what Spartachris posted above. Those are pretty convincing numbers if you ask me. Now, the blown coverages on the other hand...those things will work themselves out. You guys just wait and see.
