It is frustrating to lose a game by 2 points and then one by one point.

Looking over the stats at NFL.com for yardage, the Packers rank the following in the NFL.

Offense

Scoring 26th
Rushing 25th
Passing 14th

Defense

Scoring 15th
Rushing 16th
Passing 14th

Special Teams

Kickoff Coverage 9th
Punt Coverage 5th
Kickoff Returns 26th
Punt Returns 14th

Turnover ratio 32nd worst in the league

For decades every press conference the coach has cliche's: turnovers are killers, you have to run the ball, and stop the run.

Now if in July or August you had said the defense would be middle of the league you would have accepted average as an improvement.

Being in the bottom quarter of the league in rushing will cost you a few games.

Your season is going to be terrible if you average 3 turnovers a game and get a turnover every other game.

Statistics speak volumes.

I looks very bad... Anyway defense seems to be getting better and better..

It is in the ofense where we have the biggest issues that need to be adressed..

oh and phil, how did da bears do on sunday? any comments about that? who do you put the blame on for that loss?
They were beaten by a team that out played them.
See how refreshing that is? Try it sometime. :D

The Defensive stats ranking worries my too. I still think we need a little time to see if we are getting better on D. Remember who we have faced:

Detriot - Even though they have weapons they have not been able to start their engine.

TB - Not that great of O. Not bad, but not great.

Cleveland - Dilfer, Enough said.

Lets face some better Os and when and if we hold our own I will feel more comfortable. The next 4 games against Carolina, NO, MN and Cincy should be a good test. If we are ranked in the top half after those games than I am a true believer in our Ds improvement.

I think this says it all - We've spent over two years screamin' about needing a Defense -- yet, here, we see that our D is "better" than our O... IMHO - it looks very much like what we expected Jim Bates to accomplish (albeit slowly) is actually coming to pass.. probably quicker than what most thought would happen - seriously .... I mean look at those Defensive Stats - we're mid-level in the League on Defense? THAT's a very telling marker and I would "hope" that Bob Harlan and Ted Thompson are watching intently what happens in the next few games....

While I do not wish it - with the next four games having decidedly better Teams than what we've already faced - what do we think we can accomplish pending Favre keeps throwing the INT's every game and not doing a double-scan over the field for that elusive open-WR..? Are we about to be 0-8 (lord, I hope not) -- The point being, that right off, I simply do not see us getting by Carolina on MNF, ....NOT THIS TIME... I simply do not see it happening. And, we all know that no matter how much of a losing streak the Vikings are on, they always seem to gather their forces when playing Green Bay. Why they can't use that mentality on the rest of the League is another thread entirely. But, I think you're getting where this is headed.....

Opinions, people.. let's hear 'em - even the outsiders....!

I know last year when our offensive numbers were closer to top 5-10 in each cat, i would have killed for an average D.
