....were the hawks doing at the end of the halves? Farting around not going for the 40 yard field goal w/ ~35 sec left on the clock?!? First half was a debacle as well!
Madden and Michaels thought they should go for the field goal, but most coaches try to get the TD first in that situation. So that was an opinion that the announcers were passing off as fact. It wasn't so much bad clock management by Holmgren as it was poor execution by his team--failing to get out of bounds, etc. And near the end of the first half, Hasselbeck called two consecutive audibles, wasting about 30 seconds. It all comes back to the head coach, though. His team did not have its act together in key situations. They also started dropping passes again, just like last year.
in the fg situation...whether you're looking at a 25 yard pass for a TD, or a hail mary from the 50 assuming you get the onside, your odds of a TD are about the same...not very good...kicking a fg (assuming you make it) at least gives you some time to work with at the end
