    Maybe some of our German friends on this forum can help here. When I was in Lutherstadt Wittenberg I ate outside a little restaraunt beside the old city hall. They served me the smoothest butteriest beer I've ever tasted. Any idea what it was?

    Oh, that's difficult, there are so many different german beers as you know ;)
    As you describe it I guess it's not a Pilsener (Radeberger for example), right ?
    Because you were in the eastern part of Germany my idea No.1 is => Koestritzer
