Watching Rossum return kicks last night as he set a new NFL record made me think of wwhat could have been for the Packers. This is just more proof IMHO that Sherman had no clue when it came to dealing with free agency. Thank God that Sherman is no longer the GM.

A poster in the Chronicle forum claims that we lost Rossum due to a communication misque ... GB intended to match Atlanta's offer ... the call was made, but Rossum says he never got it. So he signed with Atlanta instead.

The other is that I believe GB doesn't spend money on special teams players. Rossum is a punt return specialist and didn't fit our system.

He definitely was a difference maker in the Falcon game tho. Jeez, 152 return yards. Did we even rack up that many in the whole season?

Rossum definately made a big difference for the Falcons against the Rams. That's something we have missed on special team punt returns since he left. But at the time I could kind of see why the Packers didn't overspend to try to keep him, because he was hurt a lot his last season with the Packers and missed a lot of playing time. He only played in 6 games his last season in Green Bay, and there was some concern about his small size and if he could remain healthy. But he's remained pretty healthy with Atlanta and he' still dangerous as a punt returner. We miss those game changing punt returns.
