24

DL - 8 (Jones, Pickett, Raji, Wilson, Daniels, Jolly, Boyd, Neal)
LB - 9 (Mathews, Hawk, Jones, Perry, Mulumba, Francois, Lattimore, Moses, Manning)

I'd switch Walker and Johnson. Johnson didn't show anything in preseason and no one thinks we have stopwatches up here in the UP, so it should be easier to stash him on the practice squad. Walker's not a burner, but he catches everything and has a knack for making people miss. He gets separation too. Otherwise looks fairly reasonable. The biggest two questions I had this offseason have been answered after Harrell was cut and Crosby was the last kicker standing. RB was settled the minute they put Harris on IR. I think that saved Starks' job.

You have actually made a pretty solid prediction. I have a few notes.

- Johnson didn't show much yet, so I expect Ross or Walker as fifth WR.

- TE's is a tough one. Mulligan is the blocking TE, and special teams guy. Williams is not special as TE, he did improve as blocker though and is an important special teams guy. Quarless is the best overall TE. Bostick is the best receiving TE behind Finley. These will be tough choices.

- 8 D-lineman seems to be many for a 3-4 team, but Raji, Pickett, Wilson, Jolly and Neal are all in their contract year, so keeping Boyd is important. If the Packers feel they can't hide him on PS, he might be on the 53.

- Mozes and Lattimore didn't play well in camp. Lattimore has an important role on special teams, but i would not be surprised if Mozes is cut.

- Banjo played very well in camp, an the packers only have 3 proven safeties. Therefore I expect Banjo on the roster or on the practice squad.

Replace Starks with Bostick, they go light at RB until the injuries pile up.
Swap Johnson for Walker.
Moses is gone for Nixon.
Was going to say Boyd but with Neil playing 2 positions, he is also an extra LB which saves Boyd.
Swap Banjo for Stoneburner.
Who is the returner without Ross if you don't want Cobb there? Franklin and Hyde?
Expect a PS player not here yet for White and / or Smith.

You beat me to it by one minute. If I could delete mine I would.

I count 16 guys who were not on the 53 man roster at the start of 2012.
I like seeing Jolly, Banjo, Bostick and Mulumba all on there.

Lane Taylor surprises me a little.

Lots of new blood. And some old blood. A number of unknowns. Look to see a few more roster moves this week. May take 4-6 weeks to try out different back up QBs and hope we will have one before anything happens to ARod.
What surprises me is that they still want Quarless. Not sure if he still remembers HOW to play TE. And no more Derrick Sherrod. Another 1st rounder down the drain.

Quarless was quick, running great routes and catching everything before he got banged up. He's a low risk/high reward guy so they probably figured why not?

I'd go along with that. Taylor may be a default selection; just the 7th best OL in camp. Van Roten is 8th., but he's evidently the only guy to backup at center. This could be a sign they want to move Newhouse in a deal for a backup QB.

I merged 2 threads on the topic of the final roster into this preexisting thread on the same topic. This is now the Official thread for the final roster discussions.

FYI: Sherrod is on PUP. There's still (slim) hope for him.
Actually, I think hopes are high for him. He broke both his tibia and fibula cleanly. There's the mending of the bones, when they're ready to accept weight. That takes about 5-6 months. Then there's the strengthening of the bones, where density and reinforcement takes place. That requires therapy and can take a year or more to get back to strength for athletics, especially for big guys. Some things simply take time. That doesn't mean he isn't working and it doesn't mean he won't make a full recovery. I figure he'll start getting reps around mid-season and he'll hone his skill throughout the season and make a push for the starting RT or LT next year or perhaps even by the playoffs.

I'm well aware of the severity of the injury. He was rushed from K.C. to St. Louis within a hours of the injury for emergency surgery. Evidently there was risk of him losing the leg, and the injury was complex enough nobody in K.C. could be trusted to do it.

It's nice to think optimistically, but the odds are against him, especially when his presumed value is at the dancing bear position. If he were a center or guard, the odds might be better. His next milestone is to move without a limp.

@PackerReport: Former Wisconsin QB Scott Tolzien will be added to #Packers practice squad on Sunday, according to source.

Oh, for cripes sakes. So, TT is looking for a bargain basement #3 project, popular with the natives, not a #2?

Heck, I like Coleman's potential as much as the next guy...but he's not ready (if he ever will be).
