What about Meshuggah? The greatest metal band of all time! (IMHO).

Millencolin is really good. Sweden has lots of really good and popular pop bands.

Pain of Salvation, Paatos, and Anekdoten are all decent Swedish bands.

I remember listening to Sahara Hotnights - Hot Night Crash, a few summers back. Was played on the radio a lot too. Great summer song.

    Of all-time or Opeth?

Opeth - Damnation. I think it was this album that I fell in love with the mellotron (and when I'm rich, I'm definitely going to buy one).

    All-time - Judas Priest's Screaming for Vengeance.

    Recent - Nightwish's Once.

Yeah, I was talking about Opeth. Blackwater Park is my favorite right now.

Nightwish for victory! I think they're even better with that swedish singer, rather than Turunen.

I saw them when they came to San Francisco. Annette was great. Anyone who doesn't give her a chance needs to see them live.

I hope they come here again on their way back, but the club they played in sucked so hopefully it will be a better club.

Sweden is my home away from home musically. Most of the music I love is A) Metal and B) Swedish.

The band in my username Darkane is a Swedish melodic modern thrash band from Helsingborg, Sweden. You metal fans here should check them out along with their fellow Helsingborg brethren Soilwork.

I am also a pretty big Opeth fan. I was more into them with Blackwater Park and before, but I still like them. Personally, my favorite album of theirs is My Arms, Your Hearse. I like the more ambient production of it. Their sound is getting to clean these days in my opinion.

I agree about people not giving Anette a chance. Lots of finnish people protested she became the singer, but when "Dark Passion Play" came out it's already the most sold finnish album in Finland over the past 10 years. And Amaranth is a great song.

My personal opinion - best songs on DPP -

    The Poet and the Pendulum
    Bye Bye Beautiful
    Amaranth
    Master Passion Greed
For the Heart I Once Had
    The Islander
    Last of the Wilds

    All wonderful songs.

Have you seen her live? She has a strong presence. She's also very sexy, the way she moves and how she carries herself. And of course Tuomas and the other guys are cool. I want to go to Finland and actually try to get backstage next time I see them.

Darkane - I could learn a lot from you.

I am an ex-Metal musician who quit the scene in '94. Last band was a Death Metal band in Houston and we didn't make enough money so we broke up (got to eat, you know).

Completely out of the scene and trying to get back into it. The bands I like now are Nightwish, HIM, Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir (which I've all seen live), and the bands I haven't seen live that I like a lot are Opeth (only have Blackwater Park and Damnation, but both excellent albums) and Leaves' Eyes.

    Who else do you recommend?

Blackwater Park and Damnation is all I've heard. They're both excellent. Since Darkane recommended that other one, I'll pick that one up next.

I haven't heard any of them. I'll have to check them out.
