I had this happy little world in my head where Manning would stay on and mentor Luck. Not going to happen. Luck doesn't need mentoring for one thing and you guys will quickly have a quarterback controversy on your hands. It's a situation where the town is not big enough for the both of them. That's got to be an agonizing decision for the Colt's organization. Do you sell Manning out after all he's put into the organization to get Luck or do you trade off the 1st pick and keep Manning? If it were me, I'd take Luck and go for the future of the organization.

Ugh, I don't know what will happen. I guess much depends on the health of Manning and if we really do get the first pick. Perhaps a team in the East will "let" the Dolphins win a game or a team in the South "lets" the Colts win. I guess this Luck thing is that cut throat at times. I hope the Colts truly are not sucking for Luck. I joke about it, but I hope it's not the case.

I also don't know how good of a mentor Peyton could be to Luck. I know no aging HOF QB loves to have a young stud breathing down his neck no matter how nice of a guy he seems.

In some ways I hope we don't get the first pick but on second though what if Luck is truly as good as some say? I watch him and he is pretty damn good. He seems ready.

You can sit Luck for 2-3 seasons.

Manning can demand a trade if he wants but the colts hold all the chips. They just gave him a new contract and own his rights. He has no leverage.

And of course you take Luck. Its a QB driven league, you have to draft him if you think he is the best QB.

If the Redskins get Andrew Luck, consider his career done. They will ruin him, just like they have ruined every player that goes there since Dan Synder bought the team.

I feel bad for you fans, cause you are the ones that suffer. They could at least TRY to win a game or two for the die hard fans.

Oh I am past the wanting to win a game stage lol. I do think they did try early on. They tried like hell to beat Pittsburgh. Against the Bucs it was pathetic, we never adjusted a thing on defense.

Really this about sums it up from a Colts fan on another forum:
Not sure what it will take to get Caldwell out the door but he is Bill Polian's puppet. As soft as Dungy could be at times he was nobody's puppet and had control. This Caldwell dude is ****ing horrible. I am not sure why he was ever made the head coach but if he is not fired after this year Colts fans will go nuts. In fact Bill Polian is still praising him like crazy.

At times I want to rip this team up and start over. It's tainted.

All right, done bitching for now.......

    I said same thing.

You know, watching the Rams and Saints play, I knew they would lose that game in the first quarter, just by how it started. It opened with Brees under some very heavy pressure, facing 3rd and 22, 3rd and 18, 3rd and 20. About 3/4's of the 3rd down plays were for more than 10 yards, and when you pressure the hell out of him, he forces the ball around, keying on Graham and Colston. I don't have any idea why the Colts didn't try to do that to him. Tampa Bay figured that out last year, in fact EVERY team that has beat the Saints since 2009 beat them by blitzing Brees and putting 2 guys on his main receivers. This leads to him airing it out to other guys, but lately Drew Brees is not the same Drew Brees, I'm not used to seeing him constantly throw to the same guy all day like he's been doing to Jimmy Graham. Last year Colston and Moore was his favorite targets, this year it's Graham and occasionally Colston.

Also, the Rams shut down the screen passes. That's the Saints #1 weapon; the deadly screen pass. They burned Indianapolis with it in the Super Bowl, you'd think losing to that team in the Super Bowl, they would have learned how to stop the screens they utilized, but I think the Colts defensive problems this year stretches back to last season when they would get run all over by guys like Arian Foster. While they all blame it on Manning being absent, their defense really needs a HUGGGGEEEE make over!

Now there are lovely rumors Peyton could play this year. Eli has implied Peyton is trying to get back to play before the year is over. Jim Irsay implied the same.

I really hope this is not due to Peyton wanting to show he still has it so Luck stays away.....

I think it's a disaster for him if he tries to rush his recovery and come back too soon. And these games for us are freaking meaningless.

I hope the C0lts land up with Luck, but more for Luck's sake. At least he'll be able to do something with the Colts and hopefully pick up where Manning left off.

It might be getting worse though. Our owner recently said that even if Manning is unhealthy they could redo his contract maybe and not release him.

And he gave a vote of confidence to Jim Caldwell.

Well, now they are kicking themselves for it. That's their loss. But was Rodgers the #1 pick coming out of the draft as Luck surely will be? It's a bit different. Teams who are in line for the #1 pick probably can't afford to pass on Luck, they will need him.

Edit: Whoever gets the #1 pick, if they decide to pass on Luck/ trade the pick, they'd do well to be aware of where that pick is going and where Luck is going.

I'm starting to think Luck is getting over hyped. Surely he's the real deal, but let's wait till draft to hype him up like this.

If the Colts get him, they best build an O-line and a defense. I guarantee you, if Peyton was active, they'd be 3-4 or close to that cause that defense is just god awful. It's easy to blame it on him being absent if he also played linebacker, corner back and safety.

If the Redskins get him, consider his career RUINED from the start. I actually don't see this happened cause Synder goes for washed up super stars to build on his fantasy football team. remember Marty Schottenhiemer couldn't do anything with Synder controlling the team, I highly doubt Shanahan will have any say so. But if he does end up in Washington, his career will die quickly, cause they have no offensive line, and he'll be throwing to guys far past their prime.

His perfect fit would probably be Cleveland, though I doubt that will happen. They have a blind faith commitment with the boy that wimped out of the National Championship game. If Miami gets him, I'll be very disappointed.

I'm already bracing myself for the love fest I know is coming when he starts. I'm starting to think he's getting over hyped too. Another member, I think it was Spanish Rose, brought that up and it really made me think. All this fuss over Luck, are we sure he's really that good? Lots of players excel in college and then get to the pros and struggle. I think it would be the height of irony if some team basically sold the farm to get Luck and when he starts they find it no coincidence that his name rhymes with suck. I'm not saying I think this is a likely scenario but it's worth considering. I've been watching more and more of his games since all this suck for Luck stuff started and I think he is an incredibly good player. But as Bogart's post suggests, where he goes may determine the fate of Luck. I'd really hate to see a player of his supposed caliber waste away with Miami or the Redskins. I think he's going to need a strong Oline to keep up with him and also to keep him from getting whacked. But of the Colts, Redskins and Dolphins which if any of these teams has the offensive line that is capable of utilizing Luck to his full potential?

He wouldn't be the first highly touted college player to bomb in the pros.

There are rumors now that Peyton is healing. And that if this is the case and he is healthy come March the Colts if they get the first pick may also trade it for a lot.

I kinda want this first pick now. You either get Luck or you get a lot back for the pick in a trade. Oh this draft will be exciting.....

I'm going to say Miami in a HUGE what if scenario, and that is if they get Bill Cowher, which I really don't know.

The Colts could utilize him with a new coaching staff and right mind.

Washington is the pit of doom for this kid.

I thought Synder took a step back a bit lately?

Dallas could work too if they finally decide to dump Romo. Luck in Dallas would feel right to me ATM.

Colts o line IS better but the interior needs work. The tackles have declined since our first round pick Castonzo left early in the Bucs game. The kid looked good. He might be back this weekend. We spend the second on an OT as well who you guessed it.....got hurt. The Colts spent the last top 2 picks on OTs. Colts spent the third last year on a DT, Nevis. He is supposed to come back this weekend. He also looked really good. There have been injuries galore. Our rookie RB Carter has been nice compliment to Addai. Donald Brown was a bust.

Colts need to get some help on the o line though, maybe a guard or center. Jeff Saturday's last year might be happening right now.

We need CB help badly. A safety. Some LBs. Only place the Colts are set on D is DE if Mathis is resigned.

Yeah we need some players. And if Wayne leaves another receiver. Garcon is nothing special to me either.

Oh crap. We have major holes.

Look at it this way. Luck. Lucky horseshoes.

    It's destiny!

I do think Peyton is a believer thought that the first pick in the draft has to start. You don't waste it on a QB to sit on the bench. He started from day 1. I don't truly think we can have both on the team at once unless Peyton said he could only play for one more year.

You are right though about the o line. In Stanford Luck has a good one right now.

Watched Stanford again today. God, I am starting to become smitten with Luck. Today was actually considered an off day for him. 3 TDs. Not bad.Love the feel of this guy.

Hey Bogart, I wonder if John Elway would want to have Luck? ;)
