Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn dressed in a light orange shirt for his visit to the Browns. If he gets his wish, he'll soon have a matching orange helmet. Quinn, who grew up in Dublin, Ohio, has said he wants to play for the Browns, the team he rooted for as a kid.

The Browns are apparently ready to step up their pursuit of Chiefs quarterback Trent Green. Browns GM Phil Savage said Thursday morning that the next step is to negotiate a "ballpark contract" for Green that would prompt him to want to come to Cleveland for a visit. So far, Green has said he only wants to be traded to the Dolphins, who are also in the hunt.

The Panthers obviously don't view David Carr as the typical backup. Coach John Fox has said several times that Jake Delhomme, who struggled at times last season, remains the starter. But Carr could provide a viable alternative if Delhomme struggles again.

Former University of Miami linebacker Jon Beason, who is expected to be a first-round selection in the NFL Draft later this month, went through a workout for seven teams, including the Dolphins, on Thursday morning. Beason ran the 40-yard dash in the low 4.6-second range, with scouts placing his best time around 4.62 and 4.63 seconds.

Linebacker Nick Barnett has been a regular at the Packers' off-season conditioning program, choosing to take a different route than cornerback Mike McKenzie and receiver Javon Walker did when money became an issue with the Packers. He figures not preparing for the upcoming season will hurt him regardless if he has a new contract when the season begins.
