Rolle settles assault charge with probation, counseling
April 6, 2005

FRANKLIN, Tenn. (AP) -- Baltimore Ravens cornerback Samari Rolle agreed to probation and anger management and marriage counseling Wednesday, settling a charge for allegedly hitting his wife in February.

Rolle also will make a $10,000 donation to help battered women or children under a pretrial diversion agreement reached in Williamson County General Sessions Court. If he completes the counseling and finishes his probation of 11 months, 29 days without incident, the charge will be expunged from his record.

He was arrested on the misdemeanor charge after his wife, Danisha, was treated for a cut over her left eye at Baptist Hospital in Nashville. Hospital officials called authorities. Rolle could have faced up to a year in jail if convicted.

Rolle appeared in court with his wife, but declined to talk to the media.

``Obviously, he loves his wife. There's never been any interruption in their relationship,'' said his attorney, Peter Strianse. ``They have resided together as husband and wife, and things are fine between them.''

District Attorney General Ron Davis said the couple already is in marriage counseling. Davis said he agreed to the deal after hearing from Danisha Rolle that it was acceptable.

A second-round draft pick in 1998 by the Tennessee Titans, Rolle was an All-Pro in 2000. He was released by the Titans for salary cap reasons two weeks after his arrest, and signed a six-year contract with Baltimore on March 7.
