It's really such a tragic thing. Brett Favre had it all: a hall of fame career, he is the most exciting player the NFL has ever witnessed and had the worlds best fans in the palm of his hands. His massive ego pretty much ruined the perfect end to that story.

I was once a big Brett Favre fan but by around 2002 or so I was at that time still in the minority of those who couldn't stand his growing reputation for throwing game killing interceptions and I was still getting brow beaten by the Favre apologists across the Internet forum world.

Fundamentally, Favre was never even close to an elite QB. His calling cards were his heart of a champion, his infinite knowledge of opposing teams defenses, his legendary arm strength, and finally his incomparable toughness.

Comparing the two side by side, Rodgers ultimately wins as the better overall QB. Characteristics which Rodgers holds a clear advantage to Favre are: throwing better on the move, extremely more accurate especially on deep throws, a large advantage over Favre in the fundamentals, a clear advantage over Favre in being a good teamate, and clearly more proficent throwing the back shoulder pass.

Favre felt he didn't have to participate in training camp any longer. He felt that we owed him. That the Packer nation should bow down to mighty Brett when and IF he decided to step back on HIS Lambeau Field. His fervent followers were still many and many of these followers were still drunk from all of his success from his greater success of the mid 1990's. Mike McCarthy had just got done resurrecting Favre's declining career in the 07-08 campaign and this is Brett's way of thanking him. Retiring, waffling about it as he had done for the prior three seasons, staying out and then changing his mind just in time to miss another offseason with the team. Then mighty Brett shows up and attempts to upstage the Packer organization.

All things considered, Favre's career had a fitting end and Ted Thompson, McCarthy, and Aaron Rodgers will continue to bring excellent performance and much joy to us very appreciative Packer fans.

    GO PACK!

Aaron Rogers has alot more years left, but as of right now he is not in the same sentence as Brett Favre

    Are you serious?
No way you feel that way, unless your hatred for Favre outweighs your rational thinking.

He decimated any season favre ever had in 1 less game. I wont ever mention the postseason stuff.

Favre has all the records bc he played forever. He would have last 10 years in NYC.

You are not mentioning the rule changes the league has enforced.
So using stats as your arguement doesn't prove your point.

    3 things

    1. So by that reasoning is Bart Starr the best QB of all time in your opinion?

    2. Packers went 15-1, better than any season Brett did.

    3. So you can't use stats anymore when comparing players from a few years ago bc of "rule changes"?

So now you are using a record as your statement?
Last time I checked, it's a team sport.

It just adds to the evidence. Favre fans jumped all over 2008, it's only fair.

So tell me why you think Favre is so much better than Rodgers? Clearly stats and records are too complicated for you.

Not complicated at all, but you are soo sure to judge a player with a few seasons over a guy who has played great for you guys for over a decade.
With your logic of thinking Rogers is better then Peyton Manning.

I have reservations against arguing with people who cant even spell the name of the guy they are arguing about, but I'll ignore them.

Peyton in 2004 had pretty much as good of a season as Aaron had this year. It would be splitting hairs to say one over the other. Career wise Peyton has had a better career, just like Favre had a better career than Peyton so far, though one could argue differently I am sure.

No QB in the history of the NFL has had a better season than Aaron Rodgers has had this year. Yet it pales in comparison to the best season ever by a Packer.

    Are you kidding me?
Is that how you resort to making a football arguement?
Which players name did I mistakenly spell wrong?

And to think, I thought I was talking to a knowledgeable football fan. Boy was I WRONG

Not a whole lot to argue with here.
I guess I'll ask again, what are your parameters?
You have a problem with Aarons greatness but refuse to counter with anything yourself. Very troll like. But hey I'm laughing and that's all that matters. :)

He is right...When 2008 finished all we heard was Brett would have gotten them to the playoffs..

Now those a majority of those "Brett fans" argue that it isnt the q/b play, its the entire team around him

    Double standard

Why are we arguing with a Giants fan about players we know way better than he/she knows?

Nice language. Your respect for this board is exactly why I have made posts about the Giants fans (such as yourself) coming on here and being flatout rude and disrespectful. This is the Packer Forum not a Giants message board.
    NY06 is now ignored.

Really hard to compare a guy who played for what 16 or 17 years, to a guy like Rodgers who has been a starter for only four years or so. The body of work just isn't there to make an accurate comparison.

One thing you can say at this point is that Rodgers ceratainly isn't going to lose the Packers any games with stupid throws at the worst time. As amazing as the numbers are that Rodgers is putting up these days (and some of that is certainly due to rule changes and such), it is more impresive how careful he is with the football. He puts up similar if not better numbers as Favre in his prime...less the interceptions.

I used to worship Brett Favre back in the day...these days I can say I really don't like the guy. Going to the Vikings to me is unforgivable. But that's just me.

sorry but its a big yes Rodgers over favre. favre had his moment in the sun, and he kept coming back into football when he should have retired with dignity. Rodgers is the man and will bring more rings our way. ps he has better legs and i can always hear him before he takes the snap, even on the TV. I just love the man. (and all the rest of the wonderful team)
