Rats??!!!! I would definately move, when there is one rat there is lots more. If you HAVE to stay, rats and mice love the candy "dots" put a half of a one in a trap and you will get him/her.

Rats are so very dirty and carry lots of diseases, just be careful...

Thanks for all the suggestion guys. Packinsteel and Heather, er what are dots, never heard of the Candy up here in Canada. Also, can't find the old fashioned mouse traps.

lol, RP you are one funny dude.

Arrow, thanks alot man, something I'm going to look into for sure.

Finally 4pack, er the dog would be great, but if he brings me dead rats in his mouth, I'm gonna run out of my house with my hands up screaming.... :-?

Before I moved out of my house last year, I was infested with bats flying around. My cat caught three of them. Gross looking, even more than rats. Get a kitty cat if they are allowed. They will bring the rats to your feet.

You assume I am fine living with rats. Of course not, that is why I try to stay away from the house as much as possible, and partially why I spent a a night few days ago at a friends house.

Oh God, I just saw one on the kitchen counter. Honestly, they just don't stop. I covered the wire they used to get on the counter, and now they find a different way, through the stove I think. What's worse, I think I'm getting paranoid and thinking I see rats all over.... this isn't funny. :(

Rats are crazy. I neverhad them personally but my Ex-Girlfriends cousin had them and they nested in her couch. She would be sleeping and rats would run across her and she could hear them moving below her. We went over and threw out her couch and we saw at least 5 of them. If I had 1 I would move.

Geez allabout.......i'd be freaking out too to be honest. The problem is, they must be in the whole building. Even if you try to kill the ones "visiting" you, their relatives will follow. If i were you, i'd take pictures of them, and go to the landlord an order him to get an exterminator, or you will turn him into the health department.
Otherwise, you can refuse to pay rent until the problem is taken care of. Have you talked to any other people in the building to see how they feel?

    :wtf:

cheesy, there are rats in the other apartments too. Unfortunately, the problem is that this landlord isn't the best of ones, heck he isn't even half allright when it comes to money.

The lease is still for a year, and I can't break it. :(

so you cant break a lease even tho it is unhealthy to live there...

look up the laws in your state about breaking a lease, I bet there is something there that you can use..

    or call the health department..

I agree with Longtime, there has to be something you can do...Lease or no lease, if a place is unsanitary to live, you have your rights as a tenant...

Actually, I'd rather not leave because this is so close to everything, in the smack dab near downtown, and I actually got the rent waived for a good part of the year.

Unfortunately, Rats keep coming. Had 4 traps, all 4 caught rats. 2 were ones caught on the counter.

Just today, I saw a rat in the living room. Was running back and forth, behind the tv and couches. Just got 4 more traps, and got one in my room since it is connected to the living room.

I seriously think I hear rats at night while I try to fall asleep. THIS ISN'T OK!!!

Just because they waived the rent doesn't mean they (the landlord) are off the hook getting rid of the rats. Call the health department

Actaully, there is a reason I have been hesitating.

The guy who owns this small building is a Priest. I simply can't call the health dept. on him, my morality can't come to terms with that being the right thing to do. :-?

So at least call an exterminator and then pass the plate... :)
