Practice squad eligibility

Just to clear the air on it, because there seems to be some misconceptions, the practice squad is designed almost solely for young, developing players. Generally you can't be on it more than 2 years, and you can't ever be on one if you've been active in 9 or more NFL games.

It's not like signing a baseball player to a minor league contract, you can't just stash veteran players who don't make your roster out of training camp on the practice squad.

Max of 3 years but only under certain circumstances.
