I mean absolutely no offense what so ever. The NFL is not a place to have women refs. It's a contact sport(though it has been toned down some)that even the male refs get in the way & get knocked on their butt pretty hard. Curious as to what u guys & gals think about this
I always thought NFL refs worked there way up the system like the players, many seasons working various college games before the big time of the NFL.
It would take some getting used to but as long as they worked themselves up through the ranks I can deal w/it. But like I said earlier I've never seen a female ref in college. High school or pee wee for that fact
don't get ur hopes up Shawnsta3. She'll be dressed head to toe & not showing the kinda skin ur wanting to see.
It is now official. Thurs night in SD a woman will referee a NFL pre-season game. I believe they said. She referred in the mid eastern Atlantic Conference
On the general subject of replacement refs, it's worth noting that all turnovers will be reviewed in the booth this year after the league added all TDs to booth responsibility last season. Add to that coaches' prerogative to request review on many other calls, and you end up with a lot of "second look" backup on critical plays. One might wonder if some replacement crews will be overzealous in establishing authority and throw flags on every ticky-tack, or be deers in the headlights and throw too few. But that kind of inconsistency from crew to crew exits with the regular refs. Teams scout officiating crews to determine tendencies, which says a lot. I'd be concern most about misapplication of the rules. The league should give the crew chief a headseat, and if there is confusion about a rule when the refs huddle up they should be able to call up for guidance. I'm sure there will be some goofs along the way, and there will be a fair amount of wailing and gnashing of teeth by the victims of bad calls, but I think in the final analysis the fall off in quality won't be significant. As for a woman making calls, so what? She was good enough in college football to get the call, just like many of the guys. Whether she does well or sucks will have nothing to do with gender. Sheesh...she's not being asked to tackle anybody.
Why not? Could become a distraction for some of the players. Wonder if they would wear the same uniforms as the male refs?
Nothing you said is different from any of the other games in past years. Missed calls will get a lot of press because the refs are replacements but then every game has missed calls and inconsistent application of the rules.
if that's the new outfits I don't think much football will get played. Although I'm sure someone will get played.
it's not so much the calls I'm concerned with. If she's reffing then she's in shape. One of my concerns is that when she gets in the way & gets plowed over by accident & it will happen sooner or later is will she be able to get up. Don't wanna hear her griping b/c she got knocked down.
My girlfriend plays what is as close to professional roller derby as you can get. Not the old theatrical, pro wrestling style game but a fully legit full contact version. She has played against the best in the world including mens teams. At first I was wary of the full contact aspect but I can say now without a doubt that the women I've encountered in the sport can hit and take a hit as well as any guy can. They are tough as sh*t! Remember Gil Haskell, the special teams coach that got blasted on the sidelines in a 1995 playoff game in Dallas? Anyone who gets run over by guys that big and fast who are wearing helmets will get jacked up regardless of gender.
