• The rule isn’t regarding the helmet, it’s the crown of the helmet. So RBs can get low outside of the tackle box and instead of using the top of the helmet as a weapon, they just need to look up and use the facemask as a weapon. Then in a couple of years when neck injuries are as prevalent as concussions, they’ll change the rule again.
• Somewhat lost in the crown of the helmet rule, they got rid of the ridiculous tuck rule. 12 short seasons after the Raiders got screwed they figured it out.
• Back in the olden days, NFL players had jobs in the off season to supplement their income. And IMO once the league starting making billions/year they were miserly regarding the players who helped build the league into what it became.
