Update: GM Ted Thompson says Perry was a guy the Packers had targeted and feel he is a player who can come in an contribute right away. The Packers plan to use Perry as an outside linebacker in the 3-4 scheme. Thompson said "we're convinced he's athletic enough to play standing up and do some of the things that we do."

The Packers selected Nick Perry, a defensive end out of Southern Cal, with the 28th overall pick in Thurday's NFL Draft.
Perry is a guy who slid on a lot of team's draft boards from the early first-round to the Packers at 28.
In three seasons, Perry started 22 of 37 games at Southern California – 21 at strong-side defensive end and one on the weak-side.
He recorded 103 tackles (62 solo) with 21.5 sacks (137 yards) and 29.5 tackles for loss (166 yards)…Caused five fumbles and recovered two others, advancing one eight yards…Also deflected six passes.
In short he's a strong guy with incredible speed, having ran a 4.58 40 yard dash at the combine.
